Director & Professor of Marketing, Amazon bestselling author of "Fake News - Spot it.Stop it" and "Troll Proof Branding in the Age of Doppelgänger", "Innovator in Education Awardee 2023"
The choice between right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles is largely historical and influenced by various factors, including colonial influence, local regulations, and historical practices. Here's a brief overview of the history and reasons behind the two systems: 1. Countries often adopted the traffic system of their colonizers (e.g., British colonies use LHT, former French colonies use RHT) 2. The United States adopted right-hand traffic (RHT) in the late 18th century, influenced by military and political changes. As the country expanded westward, larger freight wagons pulled by multiple pairs of horses became common. Drivers would sit on the left rear horse to keep their right hand free to lash the team, making it easier to pass oncoming traffic on the right. This practice gradually led to the widespread adoption of RHT.
