Great initiative by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to launch a #National #Digital #Skills #Forum. Privileged to be invited as a member of this forum together with our Deputy Director General, Mr Zukile Mvalo. The chemical industries are rapidly #digitising and #digitalising. This requires a #new #workforce that is digitally savvy with higher levels of #digital #literacy and #technology #adoption. CHIETA’s #SMART #Skills #Centres are designed to improve access to digital technologies and increase the level of digital literacy in the country. Thus far, 6 658 people have benefited from our centres with digital literacy and other skills. #digitaltransformation

Interesting report. I would love for educators to use technology as a means to an end not an end in itself. a tool to support pedagogy and promote inclusive education.

Educational technology (edtech) is likely to continue to influence various facets of #university life! In this context, Dr. Melissa Laufer, Maricia A. Mende & Marvin Sievering analysed the experiences of 181 staff members working in #highereducation and related organisations in 25 countries. Based on this #research, they created an online guide with practical recommendations for addressing organisational challenges higher education institutions face when adopting #EdTech. In our latest blog post, the authors summarise the key findings to empower higher education staff to take charge of #digitaltransformation at their institutions. Invited Professor of Practice @ Escola Superior de Educação de Paula Frassinetti | Teacher education | Technology | I work in 4 languages
For those interested in the GEM Report UNESCO, the many background papers provide deep dives into various aspects of #edtech. One, "Barriers and supports for technology integration: Views from teachers," explores the views and experiences of 70 teachers from 17 countries around technology #integration. It is steeped in #teachers experiences and extensively quotes teachers. I think it's a valuable resource for anyone who works with teachers in technology integration or who is involved with #CPD. Main topics in the paper include: · Teachers attitudes toward technology · The technological, bureaucratic and attitudinal barriers teachers face in attempting to use and integrate #edtech · Teachers views on their #preservice preparation to use #edtech for teaching (and teaching in general) (Spoiler 1: It is not good) · The type of #teachertraining and #CPD they want (Spoiler 2: It’s often not what donor-funded projects provide) · Their views on the qualifications of #CPD providers · The importance of #coaching, #mentoring and support My thanks to teachers in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia for sharing their experiences with me in interviews. You can find all their names, schools and countries in the background paper. Spending so much time talking with teachers across the globe was by far the professional highlight of 2022! Thanks to colleagues across the globe who helped with interviews: Yvette Tan (Philippines), Aya Mouelhi (She/Her) (Tunisia), Nona Popiashvili (Georgia), Nathalia Bustamante (Brazil), SHYLAJA REDDY (India), Joan Gil (Mexico), and Toufic Karam (Lebanon). Finally, thanks, too, to the 12 international education experts whose insights supplemented those of teachers: Anne Todd Leftwich, Justin Reich, Mona Younes, PhD, and Mary Mendenhall (U.S.); Monserrat Creamer (Ecuador); Paul Mayers and Omashani Naidoo (South Africa); Natalia Edisherashvili (Georgia and Estonia), Külli Kallas (Estonia); Cher Ping Lim (Hong Kong), Beatrice Avalos (Chile), and Catherine Margaret Beukes-Amiss (Namibia).
