Neighborcare Chief of Community Engagement Candace Jackson recently took part in a panel discussing bidirectional relationship building. She made a point of reminding attendees that working with community-based organizations is not just about money. “Resources come and go,” she said. ”It’s not that we don’t need resources, but if we rely on money to maintain and sustain the relationship, it’s not going very far. We may have one partner who can provide food. Somebody else may have a place. Share that and do that as a mainstay even when resources are plentiful. Recognize the resource that we are.” Read more about the panel and the Pathways to Equity Symposium at the link. #ValueCHCs #NeighborcareHealth #Neighborcare #Seattle #PugetSound #HealthcareForAll #HealthEquity #CHC #CommunityAction #SeattleNonProfit https://lnkd.in/gNxpDpXB

July is Minority Mental Health Month. This month serves as a reminder that there are often additional obstacles to mental health care for racial and ethnic minority groups, as well as additional stresses that impact mental health like witnessing or experiencing racial discrimination or violence. Did you know some of the first patients of Neighborcare Health were seen in converted apartment units? In the late 1960s, a group of medical students at the time, including Dr. Meredith Matthews, worked with the community to open a clinic in a two-bedroom housing unit as a way to increase access to care for community members who faced barriers to going to the county hospital. They saw 15 patients the first night of the clinic. Fast forward 55 years later, and Neighborcare Health serves nearly 60,000 patients at 31 clinics in communities across Seattle. We’re excited to keep building on the vision of our founders and finding more creative and responsive ways to meet the needs of all people. Join us on August 7 at Voices of Change, to hear more stories about Neighborcare’s past, present, and future! Register today at https://lnkd.in/gYsJ-cQj – early bird pricing ends July 1! #VoicesOfChangeNCH #ValueCHCs #NeighborcareHealth #Neighborcare #Seattle #PugetSound #HealthcareForAll #HealthEquity #CHC #CommunityAction #SeattleNonProfit
