Tawn Hauptli from Mesa Community College and myself, on behalf of South Mountain Community College, will be presenting at the 2023 Student Success Conference. We will be presenting on a framework we use in our EDU230, Diversity in Education class, called the Equity Literacy framework created by Paul Gorski. Equity literacy is a holistic framework that aims to promote fairness and justice in schools. It is built upon two key pillars: a dedication to enhancing personal and institutional comprehension of how equity and inequity function in societies and organizations, and the acquisition of individual and institutional capabilities and determination to identify and rectify instances of inequity while actively fostering equity.
When we adopt equity literacy, we strive to become advocates against inequity and proactive agents of change within our spheres of influence. We develop a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to inequities, allowing us to actively work towards their elimination and the establishment of equitable learning environments.
If you are able to attend the Student Success Conference, please do.~Andrea
