Today we celebrate Juneteenth. 🫶 Also known as “Freedom Day” and “Emancipation Day,” Juneteenth marks a pivotal day – the arrival of Union General Gordon Granger in Texas in 1865, finally bringing the news of freedom to enslaved people there. Though the Emancipation Proclamation came earlier, Texas’ remote location delayed its impact. It wouldn’t be for another six months that slavery in the United States would be formally abolished with the ratification of the 13th Amendment. While freedom wasn’t instant across the nation, Juneteenth celebrates that pivotal moment in Texas and the ongoing fight for equality. • • • • #camposhomesnj #equality #juneteenth #juneteenthcelebration #realtor #realestate #realtorlife #camdencounty #gloucestercounty #burlingtoncounty #southjerseyrealtor #njrealtor #kellerwilliamsrealty #kellerwilliamsrealtor #newjerseyrealestate #newjerseyrealtor

On Juneteenth it is important to reflect on where we have been and what still needs to be done.
On Juneteenth, we honor the end of slavery in the U.S. while recognizing the ongoing fight for true equality. Although the Emancipation Proclamation freed enslaved people in 1863, it took over two years for that news to reach the last remaining enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865. While we've made progress, systemic racism persists. At Griesing Mazzeo Law, we stand against all forms of oppression and injustice. As a women-owned firm, promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal rights is central to our mission. We wish everyone a reflective Juneteenth as we continue marching towards true liberation. #juneteenth

On this Emancipation Day, we honour the historic moment in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire, marking the beginning of the end of slavery. In 2021, the House of Commons unanimously designated August 1st as an official day of celebration, recognizing its profound significance in our shared history. As we celebrate this day, let us also reflect on the continued journey towards freedom, equity, and justice. Emancipation Day serves as an important reminder of the resilience and strength of those who fought for their liberty and human rights. Let us use this occasion to honor the past and drive positive change for a more inclusive future. #EmancipationDay #History #Freedom #Equality #SocialJustice #HumanRights #Inclusivity #Unity #ChangeMakers #Emancipationmonth

Full disclosure: Hernan Bonomo is my husband, and the person who has most shaped my political perspective. We often vehemently disagree particularly in the recent roller coaster years of global and national politics that we follow. I readily admit that with the arc of hindsight, he's usually right and I've come to appreciate his ability to cut through the noise, link seemingly disparate events, and write with a moving clarity. This is worth a read for those who care about #equity #justice and #civilrights. follow up note: he will never be right about what music to listen to on a road trip.

We have foolishly allowed the capture of genuine civil rights movements by an alliance between opportunistic elites whose only concern is self-preservation, and narcissistic, closeted authoritarians disguised as "socially progressive liberals" on a quest to spread their sense of cultural superiority. This phony diversity doesn't promote equality or any sense of justice and must be rejected.
