As cities around the world continue to expand and populations grow at an unprecedented rate, we are faced with the challenge of creating livable, sustainable, and inclusive spaces within the confines of high-density urban environments.   High-density living has become a reality for millions, and it offers tremendous opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and innovation. However, it also presents unique challenges, such as the strain on infrastructure, limited resources, social isolation, and decreased quality of life. The answer lies in the transformative Skyrise Greenery Incentive Scheme (SGIS), a groundbreaking initiative funding up to 50% of installation costs for rooftop and vertical greenery projects on existing buildings! 💰 🌳 Over 200 structures have already reaped the benefits of SGIS, giving rise to an array of projects including community gardens and therapeutic rooftop havens. 🏡✨ 🌐 Launched in 2009 by NParks, SGIS perfectly aligns with Singapore's City in Nature vision and Green Plan 2030. It champions the creation of sustainable, well-maintained green spaces that contribute to climate, ecological, and social resilience. 💚 For projects to qualify under SGIS, they must meet several criteria: ✅ Contribute to climate, ecological, or social resilience. ✅ Prioritize safety by addressing wind and structural loading on elevated levels. ✅ Ensure maintainability with proper access. ✅ Boast a well-designed and lush landscape. ✅ Seamlessly integrate with the building's form and architecture. Above all, these green installations are intended to be permanent fixtures, enhancing both sustainability and aesthetics. 🌿🏢 Inspired by SGIS, cities worldwide can learn from this initiative to cultivate green infrastructure. Great to participate in #PLaceMakingEurope 2023 Strasbourg SUMMERY OF MY KEY NOTE :   1.    Area development has evolved, and now is at one hand much more connected to the early phases as it is to the user and management phase. By this Placemaking is a generator for place led development going on to place management 2.    New questions on lively areas/plinths, shared mobility and energy production need collective answers and investments which render in the management phase.   3.    The new economy in cities have to be developed in an new mix in high density. Don’t waste good companies in the area: Keep the economy in. Use placemaking as a start for a new profile for the area 4.    Looking at the business case of the investor: ·      Better use end good management means les costs and uncertainty and risk for investors. ·      Joined area management can add to this and also brings social return by enrolling the community ·      More quality means less vacancy but also less circulation of lessees ·      Long term attractivess also means less economic aging of the real estate This al comes back into an better rate of return and an higher result on investment over longer term.   Most effective is a longterm perspective on area development and value creation. Slow money, sustainable systems for affordable housing and workplaces by means of new structures for value creation and value capturing or even better value sharing. Shared ownership is a key together with new forms of organization and management of the area.   Create, direct and manage the destination of the value
