This day in world history ๐ Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a defining moment in World War II where allied nations united in a monumental effort to turn the tide of the war. On June 6, 1944, over 156,000 brave soldiers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This massive operation, codenamed Operation Overlord, involved airborne assaults, amphibious landings, and extensive naval bombardments. Facing heavily fortified German defenses, these soldiers displayed extraordinary courage and determination. The beaches, codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword, became the sites of intense and grueling battles. Despite significant losses and immense challenges, their efforts succeeded in establishing a critical foothold in continental Europe. D-Day was not just a military operation; it was a symbol of hope and a turning point in the war. It demonstrated the power of international cooperation and the unwavering commitment to fight against tyranny and oppression. The success of D-Day paved the way for the liberation of Western Europe and ultimately contributed to the end of World War II. As we reflect on this solemn day, it is crucial to remember and honor the countless lives lost and the immense bravery displayed. D-Day serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when nations come together for a common cause. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring importance of unity and collaboration. Let us ensure that the lessons from D-Day continue to resonate with us, fostering a world where peace, respect, and cooperation prevail. Remembering the past is essential to building a better future. #DDay80 #RememberingHeroes #Unity #Peace #Respect #History Krystal Poleon, M.B.A ๐ณ๏ธ๐ Donald Milledge Monica Magee PHR, SHRM-CP Christa J. The US Army War College's War Room published an article exploring the criticality of planning horizons to avoid future global conflicts. To effectively prepare for conflict, the Army must ensure that adequate resources are allocated to prevention while also maintaining readiness. Decision Lens helps the Army gather, manage, and prioritize requirements to formulate budgets and make more agile portfolio decisions, ensuring readiness across multiple time horizons. ๐ฑ Thrilled to unveil the extraordinary insights I gained during my mind-blowing video exchange with the remarkable Andrew McQueen, Ph.D. from U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) for US Army Corps of Engineers. I have gained extensive knowledge on the integration of Working with Nature and Nature-Based Solutions into Long-Term Sustainable infrastructures! ๐ As we confront the colossal global challenges of climate change, expanding populations, coastal vulnerabilities, and limited resources, it is imperative that we emerge as innovators and pioneers. ๐ฌ Nature-based solutions may be perceived as costly, how can we effectively persuade stakeholders to implement these solutions? #NatureBasedSolutions #sustainability #climatechange #35thpiancworldcongress

In 'Beyond the Pale', p. 24, I illustrate that even when militaries escape single-loop, non-reflective, mechanistic logics, they tend to only arch into a double loop pattern that still obeys institutionalized desires for self-preservation. We do what we do in war not because of what we are asked to accomplish, but how our organizations 'know it must be done'. Read more by downloading the entire book in PDF for FREE over at Air University Press (with hard copies being printed in OCT for qualified DoD, mil, defense organizations and academia). Why do we use natural science metaphors for our models (not theories... theories are different!) for modern warfare including 'levels of war'? Theories with models generate methodologies within a chosen social paradigm. We layer 'levels of war' in something modeled from geology. I explore these constructs in the new design/planning book, "Beyond the Pale" available free to download in PDF from Air University Press here: https://lnkd.in/gthPAvzc #design #innovation #creativity #NATO #planning #strategy #leadership #military #defense #innovationleadership #creativethinking #designtheory #militarydesign #change #complexity #ukraine #army #marines #airforce #army #socom #space #spaceforce #specialoperations #freebook #education #reading #facilitation

Often, we post to celebrate and acknowledge various employees at the Center. Today, though we are highlighting Tammy Lim, she requested we also highlight her team from the Protocol and Command Visits Office, so we agreed to do a little bit of both. After retiring as a U.S. Navy Yeoman Senior Chief, Tammy began working at Naval Information Warfare Systems Command headquarters in 2001, when it was known as the Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command, or SPAWAR. Three years later, she moved to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC), San Diego, which is now known as Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific. When asked about how she would describe herself, Tammy still leans forward, embracing her team in her response: โI see myself as the little engine that says โI think WE can, I think WE can โฆโ and then Iโm so proud when our team meets our goal, and we can say, โWE DID IT, WE DID IT!โโ Tammy references the movie โHidden Figuresโ when she continues to describe the protocol team. โ[The women] were instrumental in the success of the space program at NASA. For our protocol team, we are the โhidden figuresโ that are doing all we can to make things happen at NIWC Pacific. It may be reserving parking spots, or getting badges, coordinating little meetings or big events. Our hope is that we are making a difference.โ If youโve ever benefitted from the support Tammy and the protocol team give to the Center, please feel free to leave a comment, ๐ or โค๏ธ to show your gratitude for their efforts. #OneNavyTeam #OneNAVWAR #NAVWAR #NIWCPacific #teamwork #support #people #culture #PeopleMatter #TeamMember #LovewhatYouDo

Back in 1981, during the Cold War, the Swedish Navy's underwater sensors picked up strange sounds. They thought these were Soviet submarines. They sent search teams, but always found nothing. Even after the Cold War ended, the strange sounds kept coming. In 1996, Swedish experts decided to solve the mystery. The results shared recently are quite funny. Professor Magnus Wahlberg found out the noises werenโt from Soviet submarines but from... herring! Yes, you read that right. When herring squeeze their swim bladders, they release gas through their backsides, making bubbles. For 15 years, the Swedish Navy was listening to fish farts! This story reminds us that even serious situations can have funny answers. It also shows how important it is to check our assumptions โ you never know when you might be mistaking fish farts for enemy submarines! So next time youโre sure about something, remember: it might just be the sound of herring farts underwater! #ColdWar #SwedishNavy #UnderwaterMystery #HerringFarts #FunnyHistory #AssumptionCheck #NavalResearch #UnexpectedDiscoveries #MarineBiology #HumorInHistory #SubmarineMystery #AcousticSensorsย
