Punch above your weight. You apply for a promotion. You get an interview. Assume that they know--from your resume--that you are good at your job. Understand that they know you are good at your job. They want to hear if you are good at the job you're applying for. If you're in a site-level role, the interviewers are looking for proof that you can do(and have done) work or created results beyond your site. Ops level should talk about AGM/GM level work. Multiple shifts, not just yours. AGM/GM should talk about Division level work. Multiple sites, not just yours. Division level should talk about multiple networks. Not just your own. Use the interview to show that you can punch above your weight. Not that you are awesome at your level. #recruiter #walmart #supplychain #leadershipdevelopment

Since #rue21 began its liquidation, I started looking for other jobs. Most positions I applied for required interviews with the recruiter, the District Manager (DM), and the Regional Manager (RM). Talking to the recruiter was a waste of time; they only set up interviews and then disappeared, without any decision-making power in the hiring process. But it’s a job. Many companies require at least two interviews for hiring. If the RM doesn't trust the DM to make the right decisions, why have a DM in that position? Similarly, if the DM doesn't trust the Store Manager (SM) to hire their assistant managers, why is that SM managing the store? Why is a second opinion necessary to decide if a candidate is suitable for the job? Great managers don't need to be micromanaged. They understand the consequences of poor hiring decisions and act accordingly.

My wish for today is that our friends and neighbors who continue to seek employment are offered incredible opportunities asap. Recruiters and hiring managers: please remove OpenReqs you aren't going to fill. Hiring managers: please stop handing out assignments as part of the interview process. The optics are that you're getting free labor to generate new ideas. If I wanted to know if someone could sell, during the first interview I'd ask them to sell my pen to me. If I wanted to know if they had an eye for merchandising, I'd ask them to point out what they would do differently in a display. There are ways to get the info you need without stringing people along. As limited as my knowledge is about most roles, I should think you could get to the truth of the skills faster than the time it takes to conduct three interviews and a presentation. All arguments against my position are welcome. Otherwise, how would I learn?

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to assess and sit in on interviews for various retail roles. I've always taken pride in my ability to determine who would be a good fit for the job. One lesson I've learned is to not discount an applicant's previous role or experience. Regardless of whether they come from a fast food chain or if this is their first real job, we should allow them to speak to their experiences and what they've handled. It's important to keep an open mind and give all applicants a fair chance. You may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge they have to offer. Let's focus on what they can bring to the table and not make assumptions based on their current or previous position. #jobinterview #retailjobs #hiringtips

Always chasing the best version of myself. | Sales & Marketing |Building Genuine Relationships | Goal Driven | Problem Solver | NMLS 23523333
I interviewed with a company a few months ago and it was a saddening experience. Picture this: I had an outstanding interview that led me meeting the district manager for a final interview. I was told I had everything they were looking for and exceeded their expectations in the sales management role, except one thing. He only wanted to hire from within and that meant starting at the bottom level and working my way up. Respectfully, I told the district manager I did not agree with his decision to only hire me if I started at the bottom level and he concluded the interview right then and there. It’s been 4 months now and that same store is empty of foot traffic and the ad is still up on indeed. I refuse to settle for an employer who is not open minded. I had so many thoughts and ideas just from a glimpse to change the store and make it so the sales exceeded. But, I was denied because I refused to start over in a career I worked so hard to develope myself in. It was their loss. #openminded #sales #keepgoing #changethinking #salesmanagement #newideas #letstalk #salescareers

🌟 Reflecting on a Recent Interview Experience 🌟 Recently, I had a unique interview experience that taught me valuable lessons in empathy and professionalism. While interviewing a candidate with an impressive fashion industry background, I encountered unexpected challenges that tested my ability to navigate delicate situations. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that there were challenges ahead. The candidate's initial demeanor, coupled with some rather blunt remarks about our brand, could have easily derailed the conversation. But instead of shutting down or walking away, I chose to lean in. Despite feeling disrespected and underestimated, I made a conscious decision to approach the interaction with empathy and an open mind. I listened attentively to the candidate's concerns, acknowledging her perspective while also sharing my own insights. As we delved deeper into the conversation, something remarkable happened. Despite our differences, we found common ground and began to connect on a deeper level. This experience reinforced the importance of maintaining professionalism and grace under pressure. While I may have initially felt challenged, I emerged from the encounter with a greater sense of confidence and resilience. Moving forward, I'm committed to continuing my growth as an interviewer and leader. I'm grateful for the lessons learned and look forward to applying them in future interactions. We are hiring!
