https://lnkd.in/dq8ts-ZQ On day 4 of our Earth Day week Planet v's Plastics series – today we are spotlighting Ocean Co's Impact engine, celebrating how it connects individuals and organisations to high-quality, science-based ocean health impact projects in the global south. Partnering with brands like GAIL's Bakery, Deutsche Bank and Red Bull, this engine also powers Ocean Bottle’s reusable products, funding vital ocean health projects. To date, it has removed over 13 million kgs of ocean-bound plastic, benefiting 8,700 coastal communities. Ocean Co work with collectors in vulnerable coastal communities to clear rivers and waterways and stop plastic from entering the ocean. Collectors exchange plastic for money and get access to social resources such as healthcare, education, and financial support. The collected plastic is then recycled, upcycled or co-processed through a fully traceable system, with a zero waste to landfill policy. This impactful approach has cleaned up 345 sites, directly aiding 6,489 families. Ocean Co democratizes impact, empowering any brand to support global south communities and drive sustainable change - improving ocean health. Ocean Co are a great example of a citizen brand in action. Hats off to Will Pearson Ada Babiuch and Iona Ratcliffe and the team for being a leading light and case study in Impact and Citizen Brands. #planetvsplastics #earthday2024 #citizenbrands #beaforceforgood #sustainability #purposebrands #impactbrands

On April 22nd, people around the globe came together to celebrate World Earth Day, a day dedicated to promoting environmental protection and sustainability. As part of this global movement, I had the opportunity to participate in a tree care activity, with the UNILAG GREEN HUB to nurture already planted trees and contribute to the health of our planet. Tree care is an essential aspect of environmental conservation, as trees provide us with oxygen, food, shelter, and countless other benefits. By caring for trees, we not only ensure their survival but also support the entire ecosystem that depends on them. During the activity, I learned about the importance of proper tree care, including watering, and how to ensure their proper survival. I also had the chance to connect with like-minded individuals( John Akinseloyin, NURUDEEN OGUNDIPE , Adelopo Sumayyah who share a passion for environmental stewardship. As we worked together to care for the tree, I was reminded of the power of collective action and the impact we can have when we come together to protect our planet. World Earth Day serves as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to preserve the natural world for future generations. Let us continue to inspire and educate one another, taking small yet significant steps towards a more sustainable future. Every action counts, and every tree cared for is a step in the right direction. The theme for this year's World Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics" This theme aims to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and its impact on the environment and human health. Here are some of the key goals of this year's World Earth Day. - Demanding a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040. - Promoting widespread public awareness of the health risks associated with plastics. - Rapidly phasing out single-use plastics by 2030. - Urgently pushing for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution. - Demanding an end to fast fashion and the vast amount of plastic it produces and uses. - Investing in innovative technologies and materials to build a plastic-free world.
