This summer, the Conservation Practice Adoption Motivations Survey (CPAMS), a joint project between USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and NRCS, will be mailed to 43,000 forest and grazing landowners and managers across the Nation. The CPAMS gathers information to understand why people choose to use different conservation practices and will help improve voluntary conservation programs. NASS will mail an invitation to respond early online at agcounts.usda.gov starting June 24. Responses are confidential and used for statistical purposes only. No single respondent can be identified from the published data. Previous CPAMS data are available on the Highlights page of the NASS website. For more information, visit nass.usda.gov/go/CPAMS.

Did you know that in 2019, there were approximately 1.28 million jobs in the agricultural sector in Florida? This is according to the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Science. The same report stated that agriculture contributed to about $106 billion in Florida economy that year. This goes to show just how vital the agricultural industry is to the state's economy. #Agriculture University of Florida Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

The agricultural industry has long been calling for collaborative policy and national plans to ensure a profitable, productive and sustainable future and now a discussion paper for the Agriculture and Land Plan – one of six sectoral decarbonisation plans under the Net Zero 2050 Plan – has been released as part of broader public consultation. Agriculture, as a sector in the National Greenhouse Account, made up 16.8 percent of national greenhouse gas emissions in 2020–21. This share expected to increase as other parts of the economy, such as the electricity sector, take up more readily available and lower cost abatement options. Australia’s agriculture and land sectors are already feeling the effects of climate change. Extreme weather events and changing seasonal conditions are becoming more frequent. These are putting pressure on productivity, farm performance and landscape health. Modelling from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) shows that recent seasonal conditions (2001 to 2020) reduced the profitability of Australian broadacre farms by an average of 23 percent, or around $29,200 per farm. Agriculture and the land will have an important role to play in helping Australia to transition to a net zero economy. A strong, economically efficient, global effort to reduce emissions is in the interest of Australian producers and land managers. Have your Say To develop the right plan, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry need a better understanding of what is possible for the agriculture and land sectors in terms of emissions reductions and what technologies and practices need investment in to help the sectors to transition. Your feedback will help ensure the plan is ambitious but achievable. 1. Read the discussion paper: https://lnkd.in/dEi2kiJR 2. Use the online survey to submit your feedback, upload a submission, or both: https://lnkd.in/dimj3ehe Your input will help in understanding what is possible for the agriculture and land sectors for reducing emissions. The next steps will help inform a Net Zero 2050 Plan that aligns with the nature positive goals while providing opportunities for First Nations peoples and other communities. Make a submission by 5pm AEDT Wednesday 13 December 2023.

🔍 Data Discovery | Reptile agricultural matrix data, eastern Australia 2014 - 2015 This dataset contains the count data of reptiles captured through pitfall and funnel trapping in surveys of grazing agricultural properties in the Central Tablelands of NSW, Australia. This project aimed to examine methods of managing the agricultural grazing matrix for poorly dispersing reptiles. An experimental design was set up to test a number of methods of managing the matrix and examine the influence of other landscape and environmental factors that may influence the biotic use of this human modified landscape. https://lnkd.in/g5HtcPvY Ancient farming practices and politics. History always repeats. The need to adapt is a constant, however political interference has more often been damaging rather than helpful. How globalists are trying to take over our food change is atrocious. Farmers know how to farm, know how to work with Nature and not against it. Farming often passes from generation to generation, passing on wisdom. What do politicians and globalists truly know and understand about farming? Have they ever farmed themselves or just rely on others even when it comes to gardening? They are "experts" in their own right when it comes to money but farming and money are two entirely different fields of expertise. One feeds, one takes. In the article there is mention of tension between Farmers, farming techniques understanding agricultural needs and sustainability and land grabs. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? #NoFarmersNoFood #TractorsHonkHonk #FarmingAndAgricultural #SustainableFarming #ControlledBurning #Freedom #Humanity #Peace #ExitTheUN #ExitTheWHO #ExitTheWEF #NoToSDGS #NoToCBDCS #NoToTyranny #NoToGlobalists

UK examines impact of cultured meat on farmers The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) is seeking UK farmers most likely to be affected by cultivated meat to get a better idea of the potential impact on their livelihoods. Recurring themes about threats to food and farming were found as well as possible opportunities. Now researchers are looking for more farmers to participate in the project, with the findings intended to inform policies on the fast-growing industry, according to the university. #janiceneitzel #SustSolutions #AnimalWelfareAssessment Read more - https://lnkd.in/dkDzKYDP

Happy to share our new paper on the socio-economics of a landscape restoration project in northern Nigeria! Summary: By using a multimethod strategy, we seek to generate more rigorous evidence on landscape restoration and its impacts at the household level. Using pre-restoration remote-sensing data, a machine-learning algorithm is used for the identification of similar pieces of land to Action Against Desertification (AAD) restoration sites. Comparison households were then selected from communities bordering these sites through a replication of the AAD targeting process. Finally, the impact analysis is based on propensity score adjustment techniques, applied to survey data. Overall findings suggest that participation in landscape restoration influenced household-livelihood strategies towards climate-resilient options, including a reduction of crop sales accompanied by an increase in the commercialization of livestock and livestock by-products. Households also planted more trees on their individual land, because of the restoration of communal and public lands. While this occurred without harming food security, we don’t observe a substantial increase in food security within treatment households. This suggests that food security support could be strengthened as part of restoration activities and/or that impacts of opportunity-led diversification may need a longer period to accrue. Larger impacts observed within the early takers of the programme reinforce these conclusions. Overall, the analysis also provides an innovative approach to ex-post evaluation settings. https://lnkd.in/dxf9cWsR

Great insights John C. Newton! This proactive approach to developing new markets is a strategy that is both commendable and essential. The resilience and strength of American farmers and ranchers, along with their advanced positioning, equip them well to compete on a global scale. The quality of U.S. agricultural products provides a solid foundation for international competitiveness. As the industry looks to the future, the emphasis on exploring new markets and promoting American agricultural products globally becomes increasingly important. Steering clear of protectionism, the industry might look to follow in the footsteps of the U.S. Meat Export Federation. This organization has successfully broadened beef and pork exports by reaching out to new consumer bases and tailoring products to local preferences, illustrating the dynamic approach necessary for continued growth. #Agriculture #ExportGrowth #TradePolicy #MarketDevelopment #GlobalMarkets

Over the last 5 decades, #farmers and #agriculture have had a proud history of positive trade balances. ICYMI: Yesterday's USDA FAS #agricultural trade data revealed FY23 #farm #exports at $178.75B and #imports at $195.37B, resulting in a negative trade balance of -$16.6B & the largest negative trade balance on record.
