Watershed conservation benefits everyone but the hard work is often performed by only a few. Since 1944, NRCS has delivered solutions through the Watershed Protection Program that help local communities address flooding, water quality, nutrient management, erosion, and other needs across the watershed. According to Jack Kuhn, “At the end of the day, we helped people get their lives back together again – and that’s what it’s all about.” Watch Jack's episode of the Legends docuseries: https://lnkd.in/gCUv-TPy

An interesting documentary series by DW Akademie (DW Documentary) in times of increasing events of #flooding and #droughts 🌧️💧🌊☀️🔥. Besides the topic, it's interesting that the German documentary gives a global view, with interviews, cases, and examples from all over the world. ➡️ Episode 1: The fight for #water (https://lnkd.in/exz-sNHK) ➡️ Episode 2: What happens when our water dries up? With only ~350 North Atlantic right whales left, even minor entanglements in fishing gear harm their ability to breed. “We understand the immense challenges faced by fishermen, whose livelihoods depend on their ability to fish. However, the time to ease off protective measures for North Atlantic right whales is not now. Balancing conservation with the needs of our fishing communities is essential. We need a strong ropeless gear strategy, transparency on right whale sighting and collaboration across all partners to ensure measures are effective and sustainable,” Kim Elmslie, Oceana Canada on CBC The Shift. https://lnkd.in/eyvURMw

Was listening to this episode while I was completing errands on the computer over the Christmas “holidays”. Lilly Tong is probably busy at Harvard University while her repeat guest Alicia Dale may be busy with something else. While the Sacred Cow documentary probably isn’t a good use of my time other than serving as a reminder of the necessity to drastically reduce meat consumption (as politically unpopular as it sounds) along with making substitutes more economical. The biggest takeaways (or rather reminders) is the topsoil can only handle 60 more harvests before we run into significant yield problems, and how the soil-food web works. https://lnkd.in/gf8b6WEp
