Transparency post! When I was in high school another cheerleader on the team told me that I look like I had a disease and for a long time I internalize that. My self-esteem was pretty shot for the next 10 years after that comment and I struggled a lot with seeing my own self-worth. There were no positive portrayals of blind women in the media so it didn’t really help with the situation. A lot of disabled folks grow up with the knowledge that disability is a bad thing and undesirable. But as I began to strengthen my faith and understand the plan that God had on my life, I started to really work on myself. And as I educated myself more about disability and the resources that were available to us, I started to realize how incredible of a community we really are. Some of the strongest people I’ve ever met are disabled and the resilience that we have is really incomparable. We’re problem solvers and we practice strength every single day! That’s why disability pride month is so important! It’s imperative, that we know our own light and the impact we really do have on society! And now I can confidently say that I’m a proud disabled woman and I couldn’t be any more honored to be a part of this amazing community! I hope you all go out and learn something new about disability this month and share some stories of some disabled individuals who are doing phenomenal things! If you have some favorites, tag them in the comments so others can learn about them as well! #Disability #Blind #LowVision #Motivation #Advocate #Activism #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DisabilityPrideMonth

I so feel you, my self esteem went up when I fully accepted myself and proud to be all of who I am. And also what helped me is understanding God's purpose as well, very grounding. Happy Disablity Pride Month!
