National Recreation and Park Association’s Post

This week of Park and Recreation Month, we are celebrating how agencies can act as advocates for belonging 🌟 What does it mean to be an advocate for belonging? It means to center diversity, equity, and inclusion so that we may model the beautiful, kind, welcoming world we would like to see. Park and Recreation agencies have the power to bring communities together, and create this sense of belonging through inclusion. Our cover contest winner, City of Corvallis Parks and Recreation, put on a production of The Tempest where the cast was filled with diversity in terms of gender, age, and physical ability. About a third of the cast identified as trans, older adults learned about gender diversity, and accessibility accommodations were made for a wheelchair user.
