Each Thursday during Park and Recreation Month, we encourage you to use the hashtag, #ThrowbackThursday, to share throwback photos or before-and-after photos of pollinator gardens, playground renovations, conservation areas, accessible equipment, and all the ways your community has grown over the years! Learn more about the areas of belonging we will be uplifting each week in July, and daily hashtags to celebrate specific benefits of parks: https://lnkd.in/eEzgV9Ti #WhereYouBelong #ParkAndRecMonth24

The demand for outdoor recreation has seen unprecedented growth in recent years, with record numbers of people getting outside. The BLM’s Public Lands Rule could be enormously influential in supporting conservation, expanding access, and preserving outdoor recreation values on our public lands. A new report from CAP highlights opportunities to protect BLM lands to expand outdoor recreation access: https://lnkd.in/dgbRfpyE

Urban green areas provide bees and other insects with the food sources and living spaces they need to survive. Habitat fragmentation is extremely dangerous for wildlife. By splitting populations into smaller groups, their overall population is likely to decrease. To prevent this from happening, urban green spaces are being used as habitat corridors to encourage wildlife to reach other habitable areas. A wide range of species can use urban greenery as a pathway to reach more of their own kind and, in doing so, improve their chances of increasing their population. Another "movement" to celebrate here in #Massachusetts ... "Pollinator gardens have grown from a plea to protect wildlife into a blossoming movement. Homeowners and municipalities in western Massachusetts are 'killing their lawns' and replacing the grass with trees, bushes and wildflowers that bees, butterflies and bugs rely on. These gardens grow into #ecosystems, supporting native species who continue to lose habitat in the face of climate change, development and invasive species. “'[It’s about] getting people to redefine #aesthetics,' Adams said. 'People look at a vast green lawn and say, ‘oh, that’s beautiful,’ when in fact it’s a biological wasteland. Some people look at a meadow and say it’s so wild and not tamed and not America, but to us it’s just beautiful.'” ... "The movement has expanded to beyond neighborhood backyards to include a program run by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation called Going Wild. Now in its fourth year, the program encourages residents about enhancing and preserving #pollinator habitats. "Additionally, proposed legislation on Beacon Hill calls for a special commission to study statewide opportunities for enhancing and expanding pollinator habitat in both developed and natural areas such as farm field borders, forest borders, residential areas, parks, urban areas, industrial areas, energy transmission corridors, energy generating facilities and transportation corridors. New Health Check report from Campaign for National Parks shows that even in our incredible National Parks, nature needs a lifeline. Only 6% of the total land area of National Parks is currently managed effectively for nature. Unique and precious habitats are under threat, and many species are at risk of disappearing entirely. Disappointingly #Dartmoor ranks as the 4th lowest National Park for woodland growth between 2015 and 2019 with 49ha of new woodland coverage. It also has the 4th lowest woodland coverage by area (12%) and the 6th highest potential for woodland coverage (31%). While we recognise that Moor Trees has a vital role and responsibility to encourage and inspire more woodland restoration and expansion on Dartmoor we need to work with others to identify and unlock suitable sites to achieve our vision to help turn this around. https://lnkd.in/eXNiivnT

There is only a short period of time for the House to act to avert a government shutdown. Agencies must spend funds planning how to prepare for potential shutdowns even if the shutdowns do not actually occur. Citizens must also be alerted to potential consequences on these possible shutdowns. Where does your Congress member stand on shutdowns? What are the members' issues that would lead to allowing for shutdowns? #governance #federalgovernment #executivedepartments #congress #maga #publicservices
We narrowly avoided a government shutdown and the closure of all national parks last month, but the fight is far from over. Imagine a park system where visitors don’t see park rangers past the entrance gate; where they might find the visitor center closed and trails deteriorating for lack of care; and where educational programs would be virtually nonexistent and wildlife research would be halted. Will we let Congress cut funding to the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore? Or shortchange the places that rural communities depend on for their livelihoods? Can we afford to let roads crumble at Yellowstone or Acadia? #NationalParks #ParkProtector #ParkAdvocate #ParkProtection #ParkFunding #GovernmentShutdown

Proposition 14 - Centennial Parks Conservation Fund. It covers all existing, as well as the creation of new parks. Which doesn't make them centennial. I suppose it is conserving parks but the name implies it to be so much more important. All that to shift money out of general revenue so there is less transparency. https://lnkd.in/gn5G9CcY

Dive into a brief history of how the Presidio Tunnel Tops came to be from WaterNow Alliance's Cynthia Koehler. The Tunnel Tops, located above CA-101, opened in 2022 and helped connect people to parks, wildlife, and the Bay. Green infrastructure, including native plants, helps capture stormwater and prevent pollution from entering our local waterways. Check out this quick clip to learn more about this beautiful and important green space!
Welcome to Tunnel Tops and Crissy Field in San Francisco. These adjoining spaces on the bay provide recreation for the public, capture water with green infrastructure, and offer habitat for wildlife, explains Cynthia Koehler of WaterNow Alliance. #water #watersolutions #greeninfrastructure #sanfrancisco

Did you know that building a dry stone wall in your garden can significantly enhance biodiversity? Unlike conventional walls, dry stone walls are constructed without mortar, leaving small gaps and crevices that serve as perfect habitats for various wildlife. These nooks provide shelter for insects, spiders, and small mammals. The diverse microhabitats created by the wall also encourage the growth of mosses, lichens, and even small flowering plants, enriching the garden's ecosystem. By integrating a dry stone wall, you create a thriving, self-sustaining environment that supports a wide range of species, promoting a healthier and more balanced garden. https://lnkd.in/efw6h5xE #biodiversityweek #louth #habitat #louthchat #lovelouth #gardens
