"Embracing the Power of Helping Yourself and Others" As we journey through life, we come to realize the profound truth that we have two hands—one for lifting ourselves up and the other for extending a helping hand to those in need. This sentiment resonates deeply, especially during Kidney Awareness Month, where the power of self-care and compassion intertwine. By nurturing ourselves, we become better equipped to care for others, fostering a ripple effect of kindness and support. Let's embrace the balance of self-care and altruism, knowing that by taking care of ourselves, we empower ourselves to make a positive impact on the world around us. #NephrologyNurses #KidneyAwarenessMonth2024 #StrengthInCare #KidneyHealth #SelfCare #Advocacy #HealthcareConsulting #nurse #nurselife #nursepractitioner #nephrology #registerednurses #nursesinspirenurses #nurseentrepreneur #healthcare #renal #dialysis #kidney #lawfirm #leadership #legal #career #inspiration #goals #motivation

An NHS Trust in England is on the news for the wrong reasons. Someone in their library left a note that no food should be brought to the library. Good point. However they did not leave it at that, they specified samosas, chapatis and other types of food native to not only Asians but a large swathe of minority ethnic groups. As predictable in the NHS, the Trust has come out to apologize and remind us how they are proud of the diverse ethnic groups within their Trust. No plans on investigations have been made public if they are there. This reveals a rather disturbing culture in the NHS. Every NHS Trust has an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion course as part of mandatory training. However, this training is just a cute little box to tick in our To-Do list if what we learn is not translated to action. Unlike America where racial biases and prejudices are laid bare for all to see, the United Kingdom, and indeed the NHS serves tiny little doses of subtle racism which manage to stay well hidden behind polite smiles until a telling notice makes its way to a library. It is unsettling seeing that 2 in every 5 nurses in the NHS are from overseas and from an ethnic minority group. We need to not only apoloize when racist comments are called out but retrain ourselves on what true inclusivity looks like. For clarity, racism is not a problem of Caucasians as you will see in my Newsletter tomorrow, we have racism among the very members ethnic minority groups. Whether this is against each other or against Caucasians, it is still racism. That means a personal analysis on racism should be conducted by everyone from every descent. Here are a few questions to ask ourselves as nurses: How many friends do I have from other ethnic groups? Do I know at least one overseas nurse who is excelling at their job? How diverse are our social gatherings? Do we have Freedom to Speak up against a racism, real or perceived at work? Who carries out these investigations?Do I call out racism at work when I see it or do I just smile politely then complain about it in hushed tones later? Until we address these questions, another Trust will still soon make their way to the tabloids with racism accusations. And then we will say sorry and move on. Yet our sorry might be a depresssion too late. Have an inclusive day #nursesonlinkedin #nursing #nurseblogger #nurselife #nhs #nhsjobs #racialjustice #racialequity

Our team is looking forward to joining Learn With Nurses' Michaela Nuttall to share deeper insights into UK health equity tomorrow, on the 28th September 2023 at 7pm. Are you a healthcare professional? You can register here: https://lnkd.in/epk5kPTk - Cardiovascular diseases are estimated to take 153,000 lives in the UK every year, and 17.9 million lives globally - There is a proven disparity in quality of cardiovascular health because of social determinants of health like sex and gender, and neighbourhood poverty, a root cause of which is inequality and bias. #socialdata #patientcentricity #healthequity #nurse #healthcareprofessional #learnwithnurses #volunteer
