Did you know that pregnancy can increase a person’s ‘biological age’ by a couple of years? Studies in mice and humans suggest that patterns of DNA methylation, which reflect the stresses that a body accrues over time, can estimate biological age. However, the good news is that giving birth reverses these changes. Biomedical scientist Vadim Gladyshev explains that “biological age is quite flexible; it’s a fluid parameter. It can go up and down”. Read more about this fascinating research here: https://lnkd.in/dsqeZ-EF #pregnancy #biologicalage #science #research

Preeclampsia is a high blood pressure disorder that occurs during pregnancy and can affect several organ systems. It is characterized by high blood pressure and proteinuria (protein in the urine). Severe preeclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure, heavy proteinuria, and end-organ dysfunction. It can be detected early in the first trimester through tests like blood pressure checks, Doppler scans, and protein measurements. If the test indicates an increased risk, diet, and lifestyle changes can be advised. In later trimesters, a blood test can predict preeclampsia's beginning four weeks in advance, allowing for more effective treatment and timely prenatal care appointments. . . . #medical #healthcare #hcps #physician #doctor #healthcareresearch #medicalresearch #hcpcommunity #disease #women #pregnancy #organ #healthcareprofessionals #awareness

The recent outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2 or CoV-2) pandemic in 2019 and the risk of CoV-2 infection during pregnancy led the scientific community to investigate the potential negative effects of Coronavirus infection on pregnancy outcomes and fetal development. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the current knowledge on the mechanism of fetal brain damage and the impact of nutrition in reducing inflammation related to worse neurological outcomes in the context of CoV-2 infections during pregnancy. #covid19 #pregnancy #fetalbraindamage Ospedale di Biella-ASLBI #ginecologiabiella

Self-monitoring could be used to manage high blood pressure (BP) and pre-eclampsia in high-risk pregnancies- according to a recent study. Furthermore, self-monitoring of blood pressure can play an important role in the early detection and management of hypertension in pregnant women, which could reduce the number of visits to clinics. This is very much in line with what we see through our care providers and mums who use HeraCARE, our connected maternity care platform, where all measurements taken by mums remotely are available to their care providers in realtime, allowing actions to be taken for measurements that are out of the range for each mum's customised care plan. We have had early detection of pre-eclampsia which would have otherwise gone undetected during clinical visits. ''During pregnancy, it is important to detect hypertension at early stages and effectively manage the condition to avoid unfavorable outcomes for both infants and mothers. About 10% of pregnant women are diagnosed with high BP, which increases the risk of developing pre-eclampsia. Furthermore, individuals who experience high BP persistently are at an increased risk of developing chronic hypertension and cardiovascular disease. '' according to the article Get in touch to find out more about HeraCARE's in monitoring of vitals such as blood pressure, glucose, fetal heart-rate, mood, postpartum, telehealth, education and more. Attention all healthcare professionals! Did you know that the threshold for initiation or titration of medical therapy for chronic hypertension in pregnancy has changed? According to the Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy (CHAP) trial, the new threshold is 140/90, as opposed to the previously recommended 160/110. Additionally, a recent study found that exposure to gestational hypertension or preeclampsia increases the risk of subsequent hypertension. The risk is 5.3-fold after gestational hypertension, 3.6-fold after mild preeclampsia, and 6.1-fold after severe preeclampsia. Stay up-to-date with the latest research and recommendations in hypertension management during pregnancy to provide the best care for your patients. #healthcare #hypertension #pregnancy #research

Usually, a pregnancy journey is divided into three trimesters, each with its own milestones and medical insights. In the first trimester, by 10 weeks, significant structures of your baby are developed, allowing for early structural examinations and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). This period is crucial as it carries a higher risk of miscarriage, highlighting the importance of early scans. At London Pregnancy Clinic we focus on screening for over 100 serious anomalies at the early stages of the second trimester. By 22 weeks, your baby’s brain structures are fully developed, marking a critical time for early fetal scans, fetal echo, and anomaly scans. Entering the third trimester, a quarter of fetal anomalies can be diagnosed. Moreover, this period prepares your baby for birth, moving down into the pelvis. LPC offers third trimester, wellbeing, and presentation scans to ensure your baby's health and readiness for birth. LPC’s expertise, utilising state-of-the-art ultrasound scanners equipped with high-resolution probes, ensures comprehensive screening beyond standard practices. Dr Fred Ushakov, our medical director's, specialisation in early fetal medicine underlines the clinic’s dedication to early detection and care. #HealthcareCommunity #healthcare #womenshealth #prenatalcare #pregnancycare #pregnancyjourney #maternalhealth
