Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) associated disorders (KAD) are associated with activation of innate immune processes that cause detrimental inflammation in people with KAD and #HIV, a #NIAID study found. KAD include Kaposi sarcoma, primary effusion lymphoma, KSHV-associated multicentric Castleman disease, and KSHV-inflammatory cytokine syndrome. KAD tend to affect people whose immune systems are suppressed. The findings may inform novel treatments for this complex group of disorders.
