The NCA dogs and their vital skills help us to protect the public from serious and organised crime across a broad range of threat areas. The Agency has two types of operational dogs – Search Dogs and General Purpose/Firearms Support Dogs. Search dogs tend to be Spaniels or Labradors, while General Purpose dogs are usually breeds like German Shepherds, Dutch Herders, or Belgian Malinois. Did you know that cybercrime and fraud account for over half of all reported crimes in the UK?    Cybercrime is criminal activity using digital technology to carry out attacks. This might include stealing and selling data, blackmailing businesses or individuals, identity theft, phishing (fraudulent emails) and ransomware (malicious software denying users access to their own technology).   Ransomware is the greatest serious and organised cybercrime threat. Attacks can have a significant impact due to financial, data and service losses. We welcome the new measures from the Home Secretary to recruit up to 100 new specialist intelligence and investigation officers into the NCA. These extra officers will play a key role in our efforts to tackle organised immigration crime, with the NCA currently leading around 70 investigations into the highest harm people smuggling and trafficking groups. We are determined to do all we can to disrupt and dismantle these people smuggling networks, whether they are operating in the UK or overseas.

Two men who hid 350 kilos of cocaine in the hull of a boat and tried to escape arrest by swimming away have been convicted after an NCA investigation. Bruce Knowles, 55, from Dereham, and Ferhat Gumrukguoglu, 31, from the Netherlands, were arrested after the RHIB they were travelling on was intercepted in Suffolk. Gumrukguoglu jumped from the vessel and swam towards the beach as Knowles restarted the engines and attempted to flee. Following a short pursuit, the boat was grounded on the beach and officers moved in to arrest Knowles, after he also jumped overboard in a bid to escape. The boat was towed to a harbour in Lowestoft where it was searched by NCA officers, who found the haul of drugs, worth an estimated £39 million, hidden under tarpaulin. Both men were charged with importing a controlled drug and pleaded guilty to the offence at Ipswich Crown Court today. Thanks to the work of our Border Force and Joint Maritime Security Centre partners, a very significant amount of class A drugs have been removed from the criminal marketplace where they would have fuelled further criminality and exploitation. A man who made false identity documents for organised crime groups involved in people smuggling has been jailed for three years and nine months, following an NCA investigation. Algerian national Radouane Bouhafs, 43, was arrested by NCA officers in June outside his home in Edmonton. In an outbuilding to the rear of the property, investigators found a forgery factory complete with printers, computers, blank cards and other items being used to make false documents including embossed gold foil. A number of completed fake documents were also recovered, including Irish and French EU passports, Irish and Italian identity cards, an SIA licence, which qualifies the holder to work in security, and UK, Italian and Belgian driving licences. Bouhafs admitted seven counts of possessing false ID documents with intent, and one count of possessing items used to make false ID cards. Tackling organised immigration crime is a priority for the NCA, that includes those like Bouhafs who assist or enable the gangs involved. FULL STORY ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dsidAiDw

An international operation coordinated by the NCA has resulted in the arrest and extradition of a man believed to be one of the world’s most prolific Russian-speaking cybercrime actors. The NCA has been investigating the online moniker ‘J.P. Morgan’ and his criminal network since 2015, with parallel investigations also being run by the United States Secret Service (USSS) and FBI. J.P. Morgan and his associates are elite cyber criminals who practiced extreme operational and online security in an effort to avoid law enforcement detection. Cybercrime specialists from the NCA, working closely with international partners, identified the real-world individuals responsible for several high-profile online monikers – including J.P. Morgan – and successfully tracked and located them. A coordinated day of action took place last year during which the Guardia Civil, supported by NCA and US officers, arrested 38-year-old Maksim Silnikau, also known as Maksym Silnikov, at an apartment in Estepona, Spain. Silnikau, from Belarus, is believed to have used the J.P. Morgan moniker, as well as other notorious monikers within the cybercrime community including ‘xxx’ and ‘lansky’. On Friday 9 August 2024, Silnikau was extradited from Poland to the US to face charges relating to cybercrime offences. One of the UK’s most wanted men who went on the run for four years has been brought back to Britain by the NCA in conjunction with the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) and the Crown Prosecution Service. Alex Male, 32, was detained in January by officers from the Moroccan General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), accused of entering the country illegally using false documentation. He has remained in custody in Morocco since his arrest and arrived back in the UK yesterday, escorted by officers from the NCA’s Joint International Crime Centre (JICC). Male, from Weston-super-Mare, was added to the NCA’s Most Wanted appeal in January 2022 after he went on the run following his arrest by the SWROCU in June 2020. He is accused of of conspiracy to supply cocaine and ketamine, money laundering and conspiracy to acquire a firearm Male appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court today and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance. Fugitives who think they can go on the run and stay under the radar should never stop looking over their shoulders, as we and our international partners will always be looking for them.
