Where do we go? Where does 'HR' go when we need help? Or support. Or to belong? It's a unique role we're in, caught between employer and employee, all too often kept out the loop and only called upon when things are going wrong. We're expected to resolve issues that we didn't create (and most likely have suggested ways of avoiding) and maintain the 'company line' even when it conflicts with our values. And most of the time, there's absolutely no one we can talk to about it - a lot of the time because no one else actually gets it. So, when our Clubbers leave feedback like this, it means the world. Because this is what The HR Club was created for - to give women in HR a safe space to come and share when they need to. To have access to people who get it, without the fear of being judged, reprimanded or devalued simply because of their human experience within HR. Where do you go when you need someone?

A good HR leader is able to balance the interests of the organization with the interests of the employees, advocating for them where possible. They don't treat employees like they're a problem to be solved. Instead, they show a genuine desire to offer help and support.

We have a really strong Winter 2023 issue of HR Magazine, looking at the current state of workplace inclusion, equity and diversity efforts. In particular, I recommend Theresa Agovino's excellent look at trends in religious expression in the workplace, as well as Matt Gonzales' insightful story on weight discrimination. Check it out!
