Since the addition of #noma to the list of #NTDs, we have stepped up our #awareness and case search in localities where children are at risk. This has led to increase in noma patients we see at the different stages of this disease. Whereas there are variations in the number of cases for all the weeks, we have had an average of one case per week since last quarter of 2023. Each #NomaAlert we see gives us the impetus to go in further search seeing that we have #partners that offer comprehensive care for every cases we refer. Reflecting on the scope of so many conversations about population health policy and health equity these days, a gentle reminder that Han et al.'s piece in JAMA on the association of medical debt with population health remains timely and insightful, and should inform conversations about population health policy as relates to this real-world burden on our communities. From CBS News: patient access problems in rural areas are persistent and severe. Researchers looking at CDC data saw mortality rates impacted by cancer and heart disease for both genders, and by lung disease, hepatitis, and pregnancy-related complications for women between the ages of 25-54. Patients living in rural areas frequently have challenges getting to office appointments - making it even more critical for healthcare providers serving rural areas to figure out how to engage these patients between visits. City-country mortality gap widens amid persistent holes in rural health care access https://hubs.li/Q02sgYJt0
