Become a Big Give Pledger! Music for All is taking part in the Big Give’s 2023 Christmas Challenge. The UK’s largest ‘double donation’ match funded campaign saw £28.6m raised for over 1000 charities in 2022. We are now seeking some incredible supporters prepared to pledge (promise) a minimum £100. Reaching our £1000 pledge target by 1 September 2023 deadline will allow Music for All to participate in the Big Give Christmas Campaign which runs between 28 November – 5 December 2023. The total raised in combined pledges in addition to donations made during the Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign will then be doubled through match funding. Can you help us get there? We only need to secure 10 pledges to hit our target! Pledges must be made here https://lnkd.in/evCwZRz2 by 1 September 2023, and should be a minimum of £100. Your pledge will need to be promised now, and you will be notified when your promised pledge is due for payment (after 5 December 2023). For details of the Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign launching on 28 November 2023, visit https://lnkd.in/eaER-P-K. ****Please do not donate your pledged amount before then as this will be treated as a normal donation which cannot be doubled up in the match funding pot. Pledging terms and conditions can be viewed here.***

Reposting Chris Nicholson's newsletter I received today from Musicians without Borders. For those able to support this critical project, thank you. https://lnkd.in/dukSQjgM Chris Nicholson, Program Manager, East Africa writes: We as a team, found a way In 2021, faced with an increasingly urgent and violent situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, our team in Rwanda Youth Music came to us with an idea for a new project, to help the people of DR Congo and provide support. This country is one of the world’s most neglected displacement crises and the need for humanitarian intervention is getting worse: This year, levels of violence and insecurity in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, have continued to increase. Over one million people have been displaced due to a dramatic resurgence of attacks by armed groups. As a result, Goma was already hosting more than half a million displaced people in and around the city, in overcrowded refugee areas. In this context, young people are particularly vulnerable. Children and youth are abducted into armed forces, and others, with a lack of positive options, join willingly. Hundreds of thousands of children are displaced by conflict, away from schools, friends and often their families. This is occurring daily, right now. This situation should not be happening. Nor should the tragedy these children are facing be ignored by the rest of the world. So our local team took action this year. Building on the expertise of everyone in our East Africa team, we designed a new program tailored to the needs of Congolese and Rwandan youth: Kivu Youth Music. Our Rwandan music trainers used their skills to train a new cohort of music leaders in DRCongo, specializing in nonviolent approaches to building communities through music-making. In particular, the Congo team will use cross-border approaches to provide creative and constructive alternatives for young people who live in the midst of violence in both countries. I am continually impressed by the skills of these young music trainers. They can walk into the hardest conditions and bring joy, fun, and connection. Our trainers often work in refugee camps with minimal resources - a few instruments and their own creativity - and make music with hundreds of children! To date, the Kivu Youth Music team has reached over 4,500 children directly affected by conflict. In 2024 we aim to do even more: new partnerships with IUCN NL will address the violent connections between land ownership, access to resources, and climate change in the region. We will work with young people to foster cultural connections to nature, and develop environmental leadership. The need for peaceful intervention in DRCongo is urgent and immediate. With support we can provide peaceful alternatives. Your support will help us expand on this work, countering violence and injustice in Central East Africa.
Great news! We doubled the donations of the first week with the support of our loyal supporters: 7,500 euros! A big thank you to all donors! By the way, did you know that donations to support our work are tax-friendly? We have special arrangements for Dutch citizens, thanks to our status as a Cultural ANBI foundation. This means that donations can be tax-deductible to 125% of your donation amount via our regular campaign page. This is extra interesting when you support us regularly or when you have your own company - as many in the cultural sector do. For US citizens, we have a tax-friendly route for donations too. You can visit the support page on the Global Giving platform. There, we posted the campaign 'Support the power of Music' so you can quickly put in a tax-friendly donation from the US. Or click directly on the Tax-friendly options on our campaign page.
