Absolutely and has been a tactic employed by .gov to starve the creative arts education at FE resulting in reduced progression to HE. It then gives them the negative data to argue creative arts education is declining when actually it is not, it has increased in vocational education and this was not their plan. Might be why the increase and success data is not included in the information they publish. It is also a shame they are not interested in listening to the positive impacts of creative arts education on mental health and wellbeing dispute the fact creative education and people who adopt creative processes in most industries are more successful and help overcome problems by applying creative solutions. It is not just about playing an instrument or painting a picture, it is about expression and developing confidence. #musiceducationmatters

Happy young people...that's what we all want isn't it? In this crazy, fast-paced world, sadly it's not a given. So often we see our young people finding it hard to cope with the demands of it all. School and college, friendship groups, exams and assessments - that's all before we have even mentioned social media. So what's the answer? While there is no singular definitive solution, surely one thing we forget is that kids and young people need to play? They need to have an outlet - and we believe the creative arts is that outlet. Sadly the current emphasis on Progress 8, coupled with budget cuts, has created a lack of creative arts education in many schools. A lack of support, resources, and financial backing has left schools unable to offer essential subjects like music and performing arts. The cost of running creative arts courses and maintaining resources such as mac suites with logic programs, music rooms full of a variety of musical instruments, theatres, and dance studios is simply too high for most schools to bear without adequate government funding. At BN1 Arts our goal is to find a solution that ensures the accessibility of creative arts education for all children. Even if we start with extracurricular activities, we aim to provide a space where young creatives can learn about music, dance, and performing arts for free. Who's with us? Keep Creative Arts Education Free.

Unfamiliar with The Music Inclusion Hub? Created by Boulanger Initiative, Castle of Our Skins, and D-Composed, The Music Inclusion Hub provides high-quality, culturally-competent, historically-expansive, and diversity-promoting resources for educators and students grades 2-12, early college, and beyond, including a variety of learning materials, resources, and music scores. MIH aims to: - Provide educators with culturally responsive pedagogical tools and materials. - Expose young minds to the power of music, storytelling, history and their connections to today. - Encourage students to draw inspiration from and find relatability to Black history, historical figures, modern day Black contemporaries, and women and gender-marginalized composers. - Challenge the definition of who is a composer, introduce other genres of music to the conversation, and bolster a more just and equitable narrative of artistic excellence on a national level. Attn: K-12 Dance Educators! Are you interested in attending the 2024 National Dance Education Conference this fall? As K-12 dance teachers, we are often alone in our building or district. We rarely have access to content-specific professional learning or the professional learning communities available to our colleagues in other subjects. The annual NDEO conference allows us, as dance educators, to grow our pedagogical, content, and professional knowledge through professional learning, networking, and master classes. However, the reality is it can be challenging to attend for a variety of reasons. This guest blog post from Helen Buck-Pavlick will outline how, as K-12 dance educators, you may be able to tap into your school’s ESSA funding to support your conference attendance by answering three questions: ➤ What is the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)? ➤ How can I use ESSA to support conference attendance? ➤ How do I talk to my administrator about leveraging ESSA to support conference attendance? https://lnkd.in/gawq8dGs

Does your child have a special talent? As parents, we know our kids are unique. But what if they show real promise and passion, especially in the performing arts? Mainstream schools may not always support their dreams. That's where specialist performing arts schools shine! They offer rigorous training alongside academic education, creating a nurturing environment for talented kids to thrive. Consider exploring these schools to help your child reach their full potential. Considering a specialist performing arts school for your talented child? Here's what you need to know: Choose Wisely: Not all performing arts schools are the same. They specialize in different areas, from classical music to drama. Consider what suits your child's interests and goals. Competition: Be prepared for intense competition. Schools seek exceptional talent and potential, with rigorous audition processes and limited spots. Financial Assistance: Specialist schools are often fee-paying, with boarding options pushing fees higher. Some offer scholarships or bursaries, and government subsidies may be available for select schools. Choir Schools: For young musical talents, consider choristerships at cathedral choir schools, offering a prep school education with scholarships. Mainstream Schools: Don't overlook mainstream schools. Many offer excellent arts programs, both independent and state-funded, despite funding challenges. When choosing the right path for your child's artistic journey, explore all options and consider what aligns best with their aspirations and needs. #akademos #smartschoolselection #parents #artschool #ukeducation #londonschools #performingartschool #talents

Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do. ~Rumi I love inspiring and supporting the development of justice seekers.
Music & art speaks to people so deeply because it is essentially human. Throughout history great leaders have understood the power of art to influence the mind and heart. Because of this great power, it is imperative that we use music and art as tools for the creation of culture in our communities, programs and classrooms. Music is scientifically proven to shift emotions, which can lead to a shift in action. In this workshop we will explore strategies for using music to teach emotional literacy within program structures and curriculum. Join us on January 31st at 10am PT: https://lnkd.in/g_XkHtXY
