A new framework from the Build Healthy Places Network lifts up racial healing as an actionable approach to shift power and center a community vision for health and equity. A new Guide to Racial Healing: The REPAIR Framework for Community-Institution Solidarity in Racial Healing can be used by leaders in the health care, community development and philanthropic sectors to work with community development corporations to determine the most effective ways to rectify past harms done to historically marginalized and under-resourced communities in ways that are both tangible and sustainable. As we bid farewell to another incredible summer camp season, let's take a moment to celebrate the great accomplishments that have unfolded! ☀️⛺️ According to the nonprofits we collaborate with, summer camp operation between June and August 2023 saw a 30% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2018. That increase in revenue not only illustrates the growing significance of summer camps, but also highlights the increased reach they have among communities and families. The latest issue of Local Development & Society focuses on an incredibly important topic for institutional philanthropy - place-based grantmaking. There is far too little research guidance on this form of philanthropic practice, but the articles in this issue help fill this void.

Neighborhoods across Littleton came together in 2023 to host block parties, clean up litter, and run community improvement projects, all fueled by city grants. More than 50 neighborhood events received funding from the Neighborhood Grant program in 2023, helping neighbors get to know each other through block parties, National Night Out events, and community clean-up days. Six Community Improvement Grants were awarded, funding neighborhood-initiated projects like replacing deteriorating fences and retaining walls, and several projects to convert thirsty turf areas to water-wise native greenery. Littleton's Community and Neighborhood Grant program offers $500 grants for neighborhood gatherings and events, and grants of up to $9,999 for community improvement projects. The program has an annual combined budget of $50,000. Applications for 2024 will open in January. New Jersey's Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (#NRTC) program provides a unique funding method for community development organizations. By offering a 100% tax credit to businesses that fund nonprofit revitalization plans, NJ focuses on the ability to plan and execute comprehensive community projects rather than adhering to strict #CDC definitions like in #SC or #MA. CDCs, or Community Development Corporations, have a rich history of addressing economic and social challenges in disinvested neighborhoods.
