Earlier this year, my colleague Keith Mitchell and I agreed to take on the iconic 3 Peak Challenge to raise funds for the Race Against Dementia charity. Why Race Against Dementia? You will be surprised to know that there is currently no cure for dementia, which is devastating so many lives. Today, there are over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia. This means that one in three people born today will die with dementia and every 3 seconds, someone is diagnosed with dementia, scary stats. I hope you will agree that something needs to be done to prevent this dreadful disease. Your support will go towards accelerating dementia research and to drive a significant breakthrough in finding a cure. The Challenge: We will be setting off on the 13 June with our partners Dee Watters and Emma Mitchell. The 3 Peaks Challenge involves summiting the highest peaks in England (Scafell Pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis), and Wales (Snowdon). Respectively, it is a gruelling test of endurance and determination, covering over 42 kilometers of hiking and 3,000 meters of ascent. We will be navigating varying terrain, and this challenge will certainly push our physical limits while raising funds for Race Against Dementia. One thing you may not know about me, is that I am avid car enthusiast who appreciates all cars, new and old, with a particular interest in classics and muscle cars. As a way of showcasing some of the amazing cars out there, the Granny Flat Foundation is teaming up with OldSkool Muscle Car Cruises for a family-fun event, on Sunday 10th December, and everyone is invited. All proceeds from the morning, will go to the Granny Flat Foundation, who are currently building a Tiny Home on Wheels to donate to special needs schools, as a transitional home for kids with disabilities, to help them gain independent living skills. If you would like to display your car (it doesn't have to be fancy) it only costs $10 to enter. If you would just like to walk around and admire other people's cars, entry is via a gold coin (or paper note) donation. So come on down, grab a coffee, some breakfast, walk around and admire a range of cars of all sorts in a safe and fun environment, and you can feel good knowing that you are supporting a great cause also. The Granny Flat Foundation has some amazing events coming up in the future, which I can't wait to share, all with a primary goal of helping people and supporting causes which align with our values. 🌟 Grant Spotlight: $5.8 million to MiracleFeet to scale up treatment for clubfoot and monitor its program. MiracleFeet is different from most programs we fund because it involves treating a physical disability rather than implementing a preventive health program. We currently estimate that this program is close to our cost-effectiveness threshold, and we hope that we’ll learn more and update our views as a result of this work with MiracleFeet.
