Have you heard about the protein(s) Klatho associated with fibroblast growth factors (FGFs)? "Deficiency in alpha-Klotho, which we will describe from here on as Klotho, has been linked with features of aging, kidney disease, vascular calcifications, and cardiovascular disease." Interesting blog at Integrative Kidney Institute by Majd Isreb, MD, FACP, FASN, IFMCP Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ekytg6XE

A preventive set of tests to help detect heart disease, such as coronary heart disease and stroke. ✔️ Lipoprotein A is a blood protein whose level indicates an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Normal value for adults: no more than 30 mg/dL. ✔️ Apolipoprotein A1- is the main HDL (high-density lipoprotein) protein. Low levels of apolipoprotein A1 indicate an increased risk of early cardiovascular disease. Normal value: more than 123 mg/dL. ✔️ Fibrinogen is a protein found in the blood that is involved in the blood clotting system. However, high levels of fibrinogen may increase the risk of myocardial infarction and vascular disease. Normal value: less than 300 mg/dL. ✔️ Myeloperoxidase is a marker of arterial inflammation. Normal value: less than 400 mg/dL.

Inflammation is a defence mechanism initiated by the body’s immune system in response to perceived harmful stimuli such as trauma, infection and/or auto-immune disease. The purpose of inflammation is to initiate healing, making it crucial to both recovery and repair. While acute inflammation is protective, low-grade systemic inflammation that is chronic, has been identified as a causal factor of many chronic diseases; in fact, more than half of all deaths are attributable to inflammation related diseases, these include cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, autoimmune and neurodegenerative conditions. In our latest article, we evaluated the role of aspirin for the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases in patients with chronic kidney disease. Although RCTs indicate a potential benefit in cardiovascular event reduction at the cost of increased bleeding risk, this effect was not confirmed by real-world cohort studies. Therefore, an individualized approach may be necessary to choose the optimal subpopulation of chronic kidney disease patients for prophylactic aspirin administration.
