As an Architect collaborating with a General Contractor, clients often ask me about the projected cost of their project. While I'd like to offer an immediate answer, I usually explain that it depends on the direction the design takes. Despite having baseline figures to reference, each project unfolds uniquely, requiring initial design work to understand its intricacies. One crucial aspect of addressing this variability is through our Design/Build approach. A key feature of our Design/Build approach that directly addresses the challenge of cost estimation accuracy is the early integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. This involves extra effort upfront to incorporate 3D components into a standard Revit model. However, it allows us to account for details with greater precision than traditional 2D-based estimating. We can capture nearly every aspect that can be included in a digital model, from anchor bolts to exterior rigid insulation, resulting in more reliable and comprehensive cost estimates for our clients. 🌉 Autodesk Informed Design 2025 is a gateway between manufactured products and architecture: the Autodesk Informed Design add-on, which allows users to create parametric models in Inventor and use them in Revit. 📈 The workflow consists of four main steps: workflow from Inventor to Revit, which involves creating a product definition, publishing it to Autodesk Docs, importing it to Revit, and modifying it as needed. 📜 The product definition contains various settings and rules: specify the source content, the parameters, the rules, the output types, and the Revit category for the product definition in Inventor. 🛠️ The product can be generated and inserted in Revit: product access from Autodesk Docs, adjust the variables, generate the model, and insert it in the Revit model. 🔄 The product can be replaced with a new configuration: select product in Revit, change the values of the variables, and replace the model with a new configuration. 💬 Give me your insights and thoughts in the comments! ⬇️

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀! 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀. Revit models can certainly be beneficial, but they aren't the only solution. Here's why: Understanding the purpose behind the need is crucial. Are you looking to improve project management? Want a detailed visual representation for potential investors? or for Engineers to design changes based on the 3D model ? Who is going to use the model ? which software do they use ? Each project and client have different needs and objectives. And thus, the methodology should be customized accordingly. In essence, Revit is not always the answer. We need to be cognizant of our project's unique demands before settling on a solution. In our field, there is never a one-size-fits-all. So, next time you think about modeling, let's discuss your goals first and find the best tool together.
