Founder wndr Collectives | Fractional Creative Director | Helping DTC brands build creative teams to scale content
Hiring creative help So I'm in the process of hiring on a paid media editor to help out with clients needs. Surprised as this is coming a little sooner than I had anticipated to bring on more specialized help.(But I'm not complaining! its actually pretty exciting) also I thought this was an opportune time to just talk about hiring creative help in general and how to go about doing so in order to eliminate problems internally with communications and expectations of deliverables. Best Practices: - Have Clear Objectives: Is this hire necessary? Will you be able to fulfill their workload? Do you have enough structure to hire? - Job Description & Asses Skills Needed: What is required to complete the job? Do the applicants display these? - Communicate Expectations: What is the desired outcome, can the applicant produce what is needed with the required quality and attention to detail? - Develop A Structure For The Hiring Process: One that can be duplicated as you scale the team. Avoid These! - Rushing Into Hiring: Easy to do as more clients are brought on, sometimes retainers are easier to execute in case clients drop off. - Lack Of Communication: Make sure everything is clear, ups to date and easily replicated, especially with virtual editors. - Throwing ALL The Work At Them: Start with a short trial run with the hire, gradually increase load till they are comfortable delivering assets on time and at a high(Required) quality. Over the last 6 years I've had some major successes in hiring creators for brands but also ran into issues in a couple places when I've rushed the process and not give my attention to the up front communication of expectations. This will be the first hire for a wndr Collectives editor and I'm excited to get rolling on interviews these next couple weeks. Anything other advice ya'll have shoot my way as I'm building the team from somewhat little experience. I have much to learn *SEEK wndr

Founder - Mindful Marketing | Strategy Consultant | 3x Author | Keynote Speaker | Reach out for your Strategic Planning sessions.
If we examine the job descriptions for most marketing roles, we'll quickly see why many companies struggle with innovation. All of us seem to seek candidates with similar industry experience and conventional skill sets. This approach stifles innovation. To build a truly innovative organization, we need to ensure at least 5% of our marketing workforce comes from diverse industries and possesses varied skill sets. Hire a few customers - the lead product users - into the team. We could also consider bringing in a content creator, an influencer, a scriptwriter, a journalist, or a behavioral therapist - individuals who can offer fresh perspectives. Our advisory board can also be diverse, including members from various fields to provide broader insights. Hiring a CMO from a different industry would also be a good bet. Many of us unconsciously build our organizations and teams like rigid, orderly machines. To foster creativity, we need a touch of chaos and a sprinkle of imperfection. #innovation #strategy #culture
