✔️#Legal #protection for #nurses & other clinicians from being assaulted is ABSOLUTELY a step in the right direction. 🔲 NEXT STEP: Increase Mental Health Courts, inpatient mental health services, & outpatient mental health services for patients with diagnoses that make them harmful to self or others. This avoids incorrectly incarcerating people who actually need some form of long-term behavioral health care. There’s a lot of systemic problems in healthcare tangled together due to decades of sweeping them under the rug. As a result we have a series of public health crises we can’t hide anymore, ie dangerous shortage of frontline staff, poor recruitment & retention, mental health crisis, backlog of patient care, exploitative healthcare monopolies, & community hospitals financially collapsed by PE investors. We just have to prioritize & strategically solve as many problems as we can at one time. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gHsdH5vu #SafetyFirst #RealisticWorkEnvironment #Retention #MentalHealth #Services California Nurses Association National Nurses United

Public and private corrections, health and school systems have, over more than 20 years, developed a host of strategies to engage and develop person or student-centered care plans. Unfortunately, over those same 20 years, with each effort to improve those teaming processes, the professional healers become obligated to more and more code, statute and compliance which, while well intended, robs them of their inherent desire and capacity to actually help people heal. It's the "codification" of health care. And it's leading to massive turnover and burnout, and poor outcomes. In other words, teaming isn't just about gathering and getting "stuff" done. At IHSG, we coach and train organizations and their social workers, nurses, therapists, probation officers, support persons and other healers, about how they can reclaim their long lost healing artistry--and in the process, enhance client outcomes and reduce staff burnout. If you're interested in exploring how we can help your staff become master healers, don't hesitate to reach out. Contact us at [email protected].

Healthcare Security Consultant | Author | I help healthcare organizations prevent and mitigate violence
Honestly, all of this should be mandated in every state. Home health workers put their safety on the line on a regular basis. They are very often left with little or no de-escalation training, no advance patient screening process, and a cell phone as their only safety device. It shouldn’t take a tragedy like the one that triggered this proposed law to enact change. I’m hopeful that this law will pass and serve as a new standard of home health safety and security nationwide. #healthcare #healthcaresecurity #homehealthcare #healthcareleaders #violenceprevention #riskmanagement

On Monday, the Public Health Committee held a public hearing on the bill. If passed and signed into law by Gov. Ned Lamont, the measure would require home health care agencies to obtain each client’s psychiatric history, as well as any history of violence, substance abuse and domestic abuse. Additionally, each agency would be mandated to provide staff with safety training and a wearable GPS that allows staff to contact local police by pressing a button, among other provisions. https://lnkd.in/eyKW9v5B

Founder CEO of Wellworth, a health advisory firm helping family offices and high net worth individuals navigate healthcare.
3 Ways to Spot Smoke and Mirrors in Healthcare Substance abuse and elderly care facilities often project an image of comprehensive care and support. Yet the reality behind the scenes can be starkly different. _ _ _ Here are 3 ways to spot smoke and mirrors. Is a "doctor on staff" really that? Make sure the marketing materials of the healthcare facility match the reality. Ask how often the doctor works in person at the facility. Or are they just checking in once a week? Do they employ trained providers? Do the "counselors" at the substance abuse rehabilitation center have formal training in mental health or substance abuse? Make sure the counselors are masters with extensive training and years of experience. Question the staffing ratios. Due to ongoing staffing shortages, staffing ratio numbers may not be up to date. Staffing ratio of nurses and nursing aides is critical. They are the frontline caregivers caring for patients 24/7. _ _ _ Have you experienced smoke and mirrors in elderly care or substance abuse facilities? Let me know in the comments below. For more tips, link to the full article in the comments. Need healthcare advice? At Wellworth, my team and I advise family offices and their clients on healthcare issues that require bespoke advice. The “game” is ever-shifting with barriers to access to care, but some things never change 🤦🏼♀️ This week, I had THREE insurance peer reviews for #ABA denials for clients who have clear & obvious need! It took 90 minutes for me to explain to case managers about the specific goals chosen, barriers to treatment, reason for slow progress & the rationale behind the mastery criteria chosen. It is hard for them to defend/uphold a denial when the #psychologist is explaining typical/expected child development & how statistical reasoning was used to establish clear fading & termination procedures. Not to brag, but I know what I’m talking about & dislike circular reasoning. These results come from the collaboration & determination of both clinical & administrative staff Cadenza Center for Psychotherapy and the Arts EXPECTED OUTCOME: approval of services requested for all three kids! BOTTOM LINE: choose your providers carefully! Your child’s access to effective treatment depends on it. #ChildPsychologist #healthinsurance #healthcareprofessionals #managedcare #AccessToCare #patientadvocacy #behindthescenes #commonsense #dotherightthing Danyel Hen Ashley Castro Allana Karras, B.A, M.Ed, BCBA Arielle Thony

Cases like this are undoubtedly tragic. But rare. Those of us in #seniorliving know that the risk of elopement in the private home is often much more likely, particularly when there is only one #familycaregiver who is burned out. What does your organization do to ensure that this type of tragedy doesn't happen at your communities? And perhaps, just as importantly, how do you reassure families of persons with #dementia who are overwhelmed with fear when they read such media stories? They need our help, and it's so important that we discuss the risk/reward of taking a chance on senior living vs. trying to keep a person with progressive dementia at home forever.
