Pivot Point: As we reflect on the challenge to DEI, I want to present some arguments for why DEI is important to our democracy. Some Presidential candidates are pushing back on DEI with limited understanding or commitment to fostering and building a more diverse and inclusive society. Political diversity is an important dimension of diversity and I believe DEI thought leaders need to weigh in on its implications. I present 8 Principles, aligned with constitutional principles, that should help us assess those who would want to lead our democratic society.

Constitution Day, celebrated on September 17th in the United States, holds profound significance as it commemorates the pivotal moment in American history when the framers of the U.S. Constitution signed this enduring document in 1787. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the foresight, wisdom, and dedication of the Founding Fathers who crafted a blueprint for a democratic nation that has withstood the test of time. The U.S. Constitution not only established the framework for the federal government but also enshrined essential principles such as individual rights, separation of powers, and the rule of law, shaping the very essence of the American Republic. Constitution Day encourages citizens to reflect on the enduring importance of the Constitution, its role in safeguarding freedoms, and the ongoing commitment to upholding its principles for generations to come. As we observe Constitution Day, it is an opportune moment to engage in civic education, foster a deeper understanding of our nation's history and values, and recommit ourselves to the principles of unity and liberty enshrined in this foundational document. It also underscores the significance of a government that derives its authority from the consent of the governed, an ideal that is sometimes forgotten.

J-Mark has explored some interesting constitutional issues and today he takes a serious look at the balence of power in the US. The Invisible Pillar: Why America Desperately Needs an Anonymous Third House America stands at a precipice, teetering between the grand vision of its founding fathers and the chaotic brinkmanship of modern politics. This nation, conceived in the crucible of debate and compromise, now finds its legislative process mired in a quagmire of division and stagnation. The bicameral system, a beacon of balance and representation, was designed to prevent the concentration of power and to ensure a diverse tapestry of voices could influence the governing of a vast, evolving landscape. Yet, as the sands of the political arena shift, this system increasingly serves as a battleground for partisan warfare rather than a forum for constructive dialogue.....read more below https://wix.to/eEpeykx

HOW TO CHOSE WHEN ALL OPTIONS SUCK? Throughout its history, the United States has established robust mechanisms to address the potential incapacitation of a sitting president. Nevertheless, in the event that these institutional safeguards are undermined by an autocratic leadership, the nation's longstanding commitment to democratic principles and the preservation of a 248-year legacy of freedom will be placed in grave jeopardy.

This blog post explores how their penchant for honesty and clarity contributed significantly to laying the foundation of America. Sam Adams: A Model of Directness Sam Adams stands out as a figure who epitomized the spirit of speaking one's mind. Known for his candidness, Adams believed in expressing opinions boldly and without mincing words. His style of communication was not just a personal trait but a reflection of the times and the burgeoning desire for an honest, representative government. Rejecting Political Correctness The Founding Fathers, including Adams, often eschewed the concept of being politically correct. This approach was revolutionary in fostering a culture of openness and transparency in the early days of American governance. A Legacy of Speaking Truthfully Adams and his contemporaries were aware of their role in shaping a new nation. On this July 4th, I'm reflecting on the American ideals that established our country. Here are key principles from our Constitution: * Popular sovereignty vests the ultimate governing authority in the people. * Federalism divides power between the national government and the states. * Separation of powers distributes power among three coequal branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. * Checks and balances ensures each branch can limit the powers of the others, preventing any one branch from becoming too powerful. * Limited government restricts the government's authority to those powers expressly delegated by the Constitution. * Individual rights are protected by the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the Constitution.

In Michael Lucchese's review of David T. Beito's book, "The New Deal’s War on the Bill of Rights: The Untold Story of FDR’s Concentration Camps, Censorship, and Mass Surveillance," Lucchese commends Beito for doing "a real service confronting the [Japanese internment's] sordid realities," as well as the other breaches of Constitutional rights brought about by FDR. "The New Deal has been revolutionizing American society for more than ninety years. It is unlikely the programs Roosevelt imposed on the country will ever be completely rolled back. But for conservatives interested in restoring our constitutional order, David Beito’s latest book is an important reminder that we must not simply come to terms with Roosevelt’s revolution." In summary, the key criticisms center around the perceived lack of representation, selective application of standards, and the institutions serving as tools for Western powers - issues that the critics argue are deeply entrenched and resistant to meaningful reform. Addressing these concerns would require significant political will and compromise from all major powers involved.
