The Dior show has attracted 126 million Chinese viewers in one day. It is interesting to put this number in perspective of the number of visitors in museums and to underline the importance of the digital dissemination According to ChatGPT , The total number of visitors to the top 100 art museums in 2023 was 141 million, which is double the number from the previous year and nearly three times that of 2020. However, this figure is still below the pre-pandemic high of 230 million visits in 2019. Some notable statistics include the Louvre in Paris receiving 7.7 million visitors in 2022, down only 20% from 2019, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC welcoming 3.8 million visitors in 2023 .French museums reported record attendance in 2023, with the Louvre leading with 8.9 million visitors, aiming to maintain a daily visitor mark of 30,000 in 2024 Sources https://lnkd.in/gGX3YteX https://lnkd.in/gmFBVzdn

Half of the most-visited museums worldwide in 2022 were situated in the United Kingdom or the United States according to the most recent issue of the Theme Index and Museum Index report by the Themed Entertainment Association and researchers at AECOM. However, the Louvre remained at the top with 7.7 million annual visitors. The Parisian art museum, probably best known for housing da Vinci's Mona Lisa, has ranked first regarding attendance since the 2012 edition of the report started including museums, with one exception in 2016. Even with the overall visitor numbers recovering from the coronavirus pandemic dip, almost all top-ranking museums still struggle to reach pre-pandemic attendance numbers. For example, in 2019, 9.6 million people visited the Louvre. The 7.7-million figure from 2022 therefore represents a 20 percent decrease compared to the last year before the classification of COVID-19 as a pandemic, even though numbers increased by 173 percent between 2021 and 2022.

"#Museums are believed to house #art's best masterpieces thoughtfully composed by the most talented of people. That's why a Massachusetts gallery that specializes in bad art is gaining traction." If art is subjective, how do we know when it is bad? This is a question to ponder while watching this video. The Museum of Bad Art exhibits these pieces which would otherwise have been lost to landfills. Since we live in a world of opposites, if there is good art then bad art exists too. But, how do we know bad art when we see it? Are there universal criteria which dictate what makes bad art, and if so, what are they? Who has the final say in any of this? I can envision #MuseumEducation programs developed and implemented from any or all of these questions. What are your thoughts about all of this? Please share in the comments. https://lnkd.in/eShVYV4q
