I want to reach more subscribers, so I'm starting an English newsletter. You can subscribe for free by default, but it's likely to be paid later. I'll be covering stories about the K-pop industry, but it won't be exclusively about K-pop. As the name "Tomorrow of the Music Industry" suggests, I'll be talking about trends across entertainment - music, tech, games, IP, the creator economy, and more. I believe that sooner or later, the boundaries between entertainment - music, movies, games, etc. The boundaries between industries as far apart as entertainment and retail will also blur, and - and this is the point I want to emphasize - new boundaries will emerge. This is what I call the music industry of tomorrow. We need to talk about tomorrow, not some vague future. The first newsletter will be published in the last week of June. I will write a few articles about the K-pop industry. I'd like to send out a letter once a week if possible, but I need your help to make that happen. Please subscribe! 😄 https://tmifm.beehiiv.com/

This week’s TMP Newsletter “STRATEGY” section really is one of my favourite that I’ve written and I strongly feel you have to read about it if you want to get ahead in this music and social media landscape. Some might think, the algorithm is at random, and while there’s truth to that, at the same time it’s not as random as we think. This week’s Newsletter goes into that. Cracking the algorithm. Strategy and tactic are important! https://lnkd.in/gy867FhN

Updating your website is crucial for independent music creatives because it serves as your digital business card and hub for all your activities. A well-maintained website with the latest news, music releases, and contact information enhances your professional image, keeps your audience engaged, and makes it easier for industry professionals to connect with you. This consistency not only attracts new fans but also retains your existing audience, helping to build a loyal fanbase and open doors to new opportunities. #IndieArtist #MusicMarketing #ArtistWebsite #IndependentMusician #MusicBiz #MusicianLife #ArtistPromotion #DigitalPresence #MusicCareer #StayUpdated

Co-Founder TENTH FLOOR | Experienced Music & Tech Executive | Alum of Capitol Records/UMG, Maverick, Community
Understanding and rewarding your superfan community is key to a musician's success! I'm grateful Dean Wilson's post came across my feed directing me to the Trapital podcast where Dan Runcie and Will Page discuss SoundCloud and the future of superfans. Will Page's observation on SoundCloud's distinctive feature of sharing private tracks, along with his vision of DSPs integrating exclusive features for superfans, resonated deeply. At TENTH FLOOR, we're already implementing this model successfully. By guiding our clients to direct superfans from social media to platforms like Community.com and Laylo, where they control communication and have robust segmentation capabilities, we've seen remarkable results. This approach consistently drives sold-out merchandise, packed venues, and soaring pre-saves for our clients. [*hint* check the first line of the second paragraph for an effective way we've transitioned fans from social media to text and kept them engaged]. Thanks to the integrations and analytics provided by these platforms, we consistently observe what the reporting demonstrates: a small percentage of an artist's overall social media/streaming audience drives the majority of sales. If you're eager to explore how to elevate your audience engagement game, don't hesitate to reach out! Listen: https://lnkd.in/gpntShtg #fanengagement #streaming #musicindustry
Lil Uzi Vert is proof that finding your superfans works. Releasing his 2022 EP, Red & White, exclusively on Soundcloud, a tiny portion of fans made up his revenue. In the first month after the project release, 5.2% of fans made up 54.6% of revenue. In the second, 6.5% of fans generated 71.8% of revenue. By tapping into the fans who really care and who are willing to deeper engage with the music, Uzi has shown just how important developing a fandom can be. The difference in monetization between the 6.5% and the other 93.5% is staggering. Having listeners isn’t enough anymore. To succeed, artists have to develop a truly engaged community around their music. Shoutout to Dan Runcie and Will Page for these fascinating insights. #streamingplatform #musicindustry #monetization

The concept of Direct-to-Fan in the music industry is not new. Long before the digital era, artists were already finding ways to connect directly with their audiences. One standout example is rapper Todd 'Too Short' Shaw, who, in 1987, sold 50,000 copies of his album 'Born to Mack' directly to fans from the trunk of his car. This is just one of many instances where artists took control of their distribution, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. Fast forward to today, and the landscape presents itself with opportunities for musicians to do the same. Platforms like Bandcamp and Even, or an artist's website, empower artists to connect directly with their fans, sell their music, and build a loyal community. The tools and technology might have evolved, but the essence remains the same: artists taking charge of their destiny. #musicbusiness #musicindustry #musictechnology #contentwriter #evenmusic #bandcampmusic #directtofan

How are people discovering new music today? There's obviously a wealth of discovery mechanisms embedded within platforms that have perhaps lessened the need for people to move outwards but I'd still believe a music lover would look beyond algorithms or platform playlists for discovery. Online curators who have their own communities? Music blogs? Podcasts or interview shows? Reels? Here's the thing — the surround sound of music discovery is incredibly nascent and not really being amplified. There are a few niche curators on Instagram who do a great job at it but their audience is limited right now. Again, that's not really a problem. Fandom moments start from these niches. It's where artists who aren't bankrolled by major labels from day one build their core audience. Those fans who actively seek out discovery and new music, they will be with you regardless of numbers and only for quality. And it's precisely those fans who become the "friends & family" recommenders that casual fans use to discover new music. Investing into these spaces or persistence in growing them is essential for growing the bottom layer and allowing die-hard music fans to get exposed to more quality talent day by day. There's no dearth of quality artists, just a lack of adequate visibility. #musicbusiness #musicdiscovery #fandom
