Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Inclusion and Reflection Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States.  On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the abolition of slavery, implementing the Emancipation Proclamation. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 186f3, but the news took over two years to reach Texas due to communication delays.   Today, Juneteenth is a time to celebrate progress and honor the resilience of our past. It’s a moment for self-reflection: What more can we do to dismantle racism, promote inclusion, and ensure true liberty for all? Let’s continue learning, engaging, and working toward a more inclusive society. #Juneteenth #JuneteethCelebrations #blackhistory #humanrights #antiracism #inclusion

On June 17, 2021, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was signed into law, recognizing Juneteenth as a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day that news of slavery's end reached enslaved people in Texas and other states in the Southwest, formalizing their emancipation after the Civil War ended. This was two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. What Juneteenth lessons still apply to our lives today?🤔 - - - - Juneteenth marks the day that word got to the remaining slaves and their owners in the United States that all people that had previously been enslaved were now free! The emancipation proclamation that granted this freedom was issued on January 1, 1863 whereas Juneteenth wasn’t until June 19th, 1865. That’s 2 and a half years of freedom that the final slaves did not get to experience, simply because they didn’t know. There were absolutely those who knew those slaves were free but simply didn’t inform them to use them to their advantage until the absolute final minute. There is a silver lining to this unfortunate history in that it gives us all lessons that we can live by today: 1. Oftentimes, people recognize opportunities (that are uniquely for you) long before you do. 2. Some individuals will cast a shadow over your greatness in order to benefit from it. 3. Just because you don’t recognize your power/excellence/greatness does not mean that you don’t possess it. 4. Don’t count on people to proactively tell you what you need to know; ask questions, research, and investigate. 5. Just because you don’t see it today does NOT mean that your ultimate success isn’t already in motion!

Juneteenth marks a significant milestone in American history, symbolizing the end of slavery. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, delivering the news that all enslaved individuals were finally free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Although Juneteenth has been celebrated for generations, it wasn't until 2021 that it became a federally recognized holiday. It is also referred to as Emancipation Day, Day of Jubilee, Freedom Day, Black Independence Day, and our Country's Second Independence. Divide & conquer by pitting groups against each other is an effective strategy for maintaining control. It protects the status quo. Non-Black POC against Blacks; Immigrants against Blacks; Blacks against Blacks (go figure!) The common denominator? anti-Blackness. Interesting article about how non-Black immigrants are complicit in the racial order - with Blacks on bottom. Sadly, there is widespread anti-Blackness. It’s why I’m not surprised to see Blacks over-represented at bottom levels in most organizations. I remain hopeful that true allies will come to learn the truth about American history and acknowledge the anti-Blackness that continues to exist so we can root it out. “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” We are one house.
