Dear Fellow students at Baruch, you can check out this comprehensive career guide that Jun made that includes a lot of topics that you can leverage such as Introduction to various careers in finance, real estate, consulting, Different clubs at Baruch, Resume writing, networking and many more. If you have some time, please check this out!
Over the past year, I created "Recruiting from Lexington", a comprehensive career guide and one-stop resource hub for Baruch College students. The website covers and links to everything I believe would be necessary for a student to launch their early career into the financial services industry. It can be accessed through recruitingfromlexington(dot)com, or https://lnkd.in/gV7Xc3YG Baruch's student population primarily consists of first- and second-generation immigrants, often representing the first in their families to pursue higher education. With this in mind, the website aims to overcome resource barriers by providing a centralized, accessible platform to empower career journeys at the institution. This project wouldn't have been what it is without my friend Allen Weng, as well as mentors Professor Alex Kreydin (especially him, for proofreading my scrapped 250 page PowerPoint drafts multiple times) and Professor Ken Abbott. You guys are the best.

More depressing news from higher ed... Erasing tenure sets a dangerous precendent for the freedom of research in academia. It also signals to professors that they aren't valuable to the institutions they devote much of their lives to. This leads to attrition for full professors and researchers, hurting students and entire fields of study. A few weeks ago we learned about the suicide of an administrator due to bullying from the institutions president and other colleagues. Colleges are paying masters-level staff less than $50k/year and requiring them to work on campus 100% with no hybrid or remote options. The majority of professors at many colleges are adjunct; and while adjuncts have been some of my best teachers (I'm an adjunct; we're awesome!), we don't contibute much to the instituitions research and turnover frequently due to low pay and rising class sizes. The BS in higher ed needs to change swiftly. It's hard for me to wrap my head around how long-time administrators have watched their ships begin to sink and yet have doubled-down on their archaic "principles." 10 years ago I saw no other option for me than to be a professor and funded researcher for my "forever career." It's wild to think less and less of this being a viable option for my family in terms of finances and stability. But I'm grateful to have many years of practical business and clinical experience to serve me on a path that might not lead to full-time academia (and thankful I didn't get that MS in higher ed leadership!). #HigherEducation #College #Professor #ProfessorLayoffs #Academia #Research #Education #Layoffs
