I would like to thank the Copenhagen Business School Green Transition Office and the CBS Leadership Centre for hosting a fantastic event at the CBS Green Business Forum.
During my session, which I had the honor of facilitating, we discussed the challenges and opportunities of leading toward sustainable and circular futures. Together with three distinguished speakers, we examined various paths of packaging solutions to attain distant sustainability goals. Many thanks to Lise Berg Kildemark, Louise Lerche-Gredal, Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, and the audience for a fascinating and stimulating conversation.
From the panel debate, I take away that leading toward sustainable and circular futures requires organizations to embrace uncertainties, e.g., dealing with solutions that are not yet in existence and managing exogenous changes such as war or other crises. It also includes navigating complexities such as various markets and systems and interrelated environmental crises such as plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change.
Instead of trying to overcome uncertainties and complexities, organizations must learn how to organize with them. According to the panel, this can be achieved by
🎯 various approaches such as innovation, trial and error, and taking small and big steps to enable change,
🎯 combined attention to multiple solutions, where recycling is just one of many solutions, and reduction and reuse solutions are equally important, and
🎯 taking all stakeholders on the sustainability journey through incentives, communication, and legislation.
We still have much work to do, so let's get started!
