A growing base of research shows that racially diverse school leaders and teachers can positively impact all students, particularly students of color, across a wide range of key academic and social outcomes. Yet the gap between teachers of color to students of color remains vast. To meaningfully narrow the gap between students of color and the educators who lead their classrooms and school buildings, there must be more recruitment efforts to spark interest in teaching in young people. Join the 1MTOC Campaign for a webinar focused on early recruitment strategies for cultivating a diverse educator workforce. Backed by research from Teach Plus and the Center for Black Educator Development (CBED)’s “Seeing Myself” report, our panel of experts will share nuanced perspectives and best practices around recruiting students of color and indigenous students into teaching careers. Gain valuable insights and actionable strategies for building a more inclusive and equitable educator workforce. Register here: https://ow.ly/Lz6Z50RxsyU

The attack on public schools is an attack on equity in our education system. Traditional public school districts in Ohio serve more than 1.8 million students and employ more than 245,000 Ohioans. An investment in our public schools is an investment in our nation’s 50 million public school students. #fundpublicschools #nationalpublicschoolsweek

One of the most promising new centers getting underway in education is right here in Baltimore - it's the National Center for the Elimination of Educational Disparities (NCEED), led by Dean Dr. Glenda Prime at our treasured HBCU, Morgan State University. The mission of the NCEED is to alter the trajectories of Black, Latinx and low income children in public schools in Maryland and across the United States, from underachievement, low attendance rates, high drop-out rates and inadequate preparation for college and career, to one in which they have the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of zip code and socio-economic status. The Center will achieve its mission through the following areas of work: 1. research that clearly identifies the educational needs of Black children; 2. research that builds a body of knowledge that is specific to the education of Black, Latinx and low-income children, in the areas of curriculum and pedagogy, initial and continuing teacher preparation, urban school leadership, guidance and counseling, social and emotional well-being, health and nutritional needs, school/community relations and family engagement; 3. development of materials and models of practice that optimize the achievement of these children; 4. rigorous evaluation of those materials and models to assess both effectiveness and scalability; and 5. policy analysis and advocacy.
