Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore)’s Post

Earlier this week, Minister Josephine Teo visited Chongqing, China and convened the 9th Joint Implementation Committee Meeting for the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) together with Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua. The CCI is a key bilateral project launched in 2015, focusing on modern connectivity and services such as financial services, transport and logistics, aviation, and information and communication technology. During the trip, Minister Teo also met with other Chongqing officials and visited some projects, including the Multi-Modal Distribution and Connectivity Centre, a physical facility co-developed by Singapore and Chongqing companies to enhance multimodal operations across Chongqing’s air, river, rail, and road logistics nodes. We will continue to work closely with our counterparts in China to foster stronger economic ties.

I was pleased to reconnect with Chongqing Party Secretary Yuan Jiajun and Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua. Since the establishment of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative (CCI) in 2015, Singapore’s relations with China, and particularly Chongqing, have grown from strength to strength. I last met Party Secretary Yuan during his visit to Singapore in July 2023, almost a year ago. We had a good exchange today on Chongqing's recent developments, the crucial role the Western Region plays in China's growth today, and how the CCI could continue to serve the demonstrative effect both countries set out to achieve, within this broader framework. It was also my pleasure to convene the 9th CCI Joint Implementation Committee Meeting with Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua. The CCI has made good progress across all four pillars, and I enjoyed a fruitful discussion with Mayor Hu on furthering our cooperation, particularly in the digital economy and green development. Last but not least, I would also like to thank Vice Mayor Zhang Guozhi and the Chongqing officials, including the Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee for your warm hospitality throughout the course of my trip. With an eye on the CCI’s 10th anniversary next year, I’m confident that our collaborative efforts will continue to yield remarkable results and strengthen the bond between our countries. - Jo Teo
