Over the past week, the MSE family has been leaning forward to support the oil spill clean-up efforts at affected areas. Besides clearing out oil remnants and oil-soaked sand and rocks, operations by National Environment Agency, PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency and Singapore Food Agency are underway to ensure the safety of our air, water and food. NEA has removed 550 tonnes of oil-soaked sand and debris at Sentosa, Tanah Merah, East Coast Park, and Labrador Nature Reserve, and will continue to do so until the affected areas are free of oil and other deposits. NEA officers are also monitoring air quality daily at the affected sites, and results remain well within safe levels. PUB has also confirmed that Singapore’s drinking water supply has also not been affected by the oil spill, and there is no impact to our reservoirs and desalination plants. SFA has also been taking precautionary measures to ensure that the oil spill does not affect our fish farms and that our local fish remains safe to consume. For example, SFA officers are taking fish samples twice daily from coastal fish farms in the East Johor Strait for food safety tests. The MSE family is working hard collectively to deal with the oil spill. As the tides continue to bring in remnants of oil deposits, the MSE family will continue clean-up operations and monitor the safety of our air, water and food. We would like to extend our thanks to our service providers and community volunteers for their support during this period. We will continue to ensure that workers and volunteers alike are properly equipped and well-protected. #YearofPublicHygiene #Clean #Singapore #OilSpill Image credits: NEA, PUB, SFA, Keppel

China should implement mandatory standards for edible oil transport to ensure food safety, experts said, following reports that stockpilers used tankers previously transporting liquid fuels. Liu Yanyan from Grandall Law Firm emphasized the need for dedicated vehicles and improved regulatory oversight. Yang Xin of the Rural Development Institute suggested learning from Europe to incentivize social supervision. Companies like Xiwang Food and Shandong Luhua Group stated they use specialized trucks and stringent measures to maintain safety during transport. #China #EdibleOil #Transport #FoodSafety #LiquidFuels #Safety

Minh Phu, Stapimex increase the number of GSA certified farms 👏 Minh Phu Seafood Corp and Stapimex are two leading shrimp companies investing in certification of new farms under the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) certification programs over the past 12 months. Certification is increasingly a priority for importers who are interested in seafood from Vietnam, especially the EU and US market. Surprisingly, a recent survey found out that Chinese consumers has recently grown concerns about sustainability and traceability. Currently, the number of certified farms in Vietnam reaches more than 500, while there are 64 certified factories, 27 hatcheries and 26 animal feed factories across the country. #shrimp #GSA #sustainability

One key factor to increasing incomes in the Vietnamese fishing industry and reduce waste is to improve the cold chain and insure fresher fish along the supply chain. Meros senior analyst Hiroki Seki is just back from three weeks in Vietnam supporting a pilot project to bring Japanese cold chain technologies to the fishing port at Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Our mission this time? To determine how strong the market demand really is for fresher fish and from what end users. Ultimately, the success and sustainability of this pilot will hinge on whether profits rise and fresher, premium fish can connect with the right end users.
