SEA Europe welcomes today's strong call from several Member States at the Council of the European Union to put in place a European strategy for the maritime industry. The Ministers from DE, NL, DK, ES, FI, MT, CY, EL, PT, FR, RO and IT highlighted the importance of shipbuilding and maritime technology for Europe's strategic autonomy and economic security. Commissioner Thierry Breton underlined the need for 4 important elements: 1️⃣ De-risking private investment to support the business case for sustainable ships in Europe. 2️⃣ A coordinated support at EU level to avoid the fragmentation of the EU internal market. 3️⃣ A coherent industrial policy to increase industrial capacity. 4️⃣ Trade instruments ensuring effective protection of the European industry against unfair foreign competition. SEA Europe now calls upon the Council of the European Union to formalise this strong call for a sectoral maritime industrial strategy in its forthcoming conclusions on industrial policy.

After 9 June we will have a new European Parliament. And the European Commission is renewed. Here is an overview of the shipowners' priorities before new maritime strategies, action plans and policies will see the day. Here is a compilation of recommendations from Danish Shipping, our member A.P. Moller - Maersk and our European association European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA). The recommendations supplement eachother with key messages to maintain an ambitious climate regulation and secure the availability of alternative fuels. And to have a stronger Europe in the world with a strong, fair, and open trade agenda, making Europa an attractive place for maritime business. This week A.P. Moller - Maersk launched their policy recommendations "Ahead of the Tide". The recommendations are more concrete than the associations but are just as actionable for the EU institutions. What will we take a look at? 📅 Thursday, September 5 Geopolitical and economic outlook of the BSR will be discussed during the 1st day of the sessions. The Ukrainian context will be an important point here – we will take up the topic of exporting goods from Ukraine and the state of Baltic port market two and the half year after Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. We will also talk about security challenges and their potential impact on trade in the region. The culmination of the day will be viewing the Port of Klaipeda during the boat tour.
