I rarely post personal matters on LinkedIn, but I’ve been inspired by my friends Ada Lio and Nathan Guo and I want to share their #precisionmedicine story with my network. Their adorable son, Lucas, was recently diagnosed with an #ultrararedisease called ZTTK. Baby Lucas has already gone through an 8-hour surgery and is at high risk of seizures, and his resilience and bravery have been absolutely inspiring. #ZTTK was only discovered in 2016, scientists know of only ~60 known cases in the world, and there are no known cures or treatments. Nathan and Ada have assembled a world class scientific advisory board to develop a cure for Lucas and other ZTTK patients. This is an incredible story of the power of precision medicine, #NGS, and truly personalized treatments. Not only did they leverage this testing to determine and diagnose their son, they're now, with the help of their scientific advisory board, figuring out a way to leverage #genetherapies to treat and cure Lucas.
