If you do not have a pricing strategy... For selling your wine's by the glass.. You are leaving money on the table. Do this instead 👇 If you get wine from your distributor at $16 a bottle, you should price a glass at $14-16 a glass.. A typical bottle has 4 - 6 glasses depending on the pour. For myself, I am a bit annoyed when I pay $14 for a glass of wine and they only give me 4 ounces. Doesn't feel like much of a drink to have my meal with. If you go with the 4 glasses per bottle at $14 you are bringing in $56 for that bottle. Still some nice margins there. Another method is to charge about the same price as your cost for the one glass. This is an excellent way to treat your guests. One glass and the rest is a bonus. Serve one of your new listings a different varietal or country to a guest in a 2-3 oz pour. They will feel special, they will try something new, and they just might buy another glass. You work hard to get them through the door. See the world through their eyes. They are looking for an experience. They want to be special and retreat from the world for a few moments to enjoy the moments in between. Spend a few minutes making sure your wine list works for you. A few years back, San Pellegrino decided to change its look, which got a lot of people talking. One of the biggest complaints was that they took away the foil covers from their cans. A Reddit user summed up the feeling: "It's a shame because I really enjoyed pulling the foil cover off. It made me feel so fancy!" This situation reminds me of a study about how people think wine tastes better if it comes from a bottle with a cork instead of a screw cap. What's really interesting is that it wasn't just having a cork that mattered, but the experience of opening it. However, if people only heard the sound of the cork being pulled without seeing it, it didn't make much difference. This shows us something important. While it might seem logical for a package to be easy to open, as Rory Sutherland would correctly point out, we should also think about it from a psycho-logical perspective. When we go big and delicate at the same time. Those are our rare moments in #finewine, when we can open a mathusalem type of bottle and share it with family and friends. Admittedly it’s isn’t easy to pour and if it’s a top bottle that needs decanting, we better be extra careful when serving. A situation I personally love for at least 3 reasons: 1. The #ritual: opening a grand top #bottle is something rare and a process which is artistic on its own. The weight, the cork size, the endless wine flowing from it, it’s all special. 2. It usually means there’s a big group of people we love or a special event, a party, a birthday, a wedding, something to celebrate and justify opening a very large bottle. But we can also do it for our enjoyment of life and good wine of course, and that also gives us a good reason to rejoice. 3. In most cases a large format is better for aging a great wine, and enables to age it longer, unveiling secondary aromas over time. And when we collected it since a while, there’s a high chance we only have one of those and kept it for a long time to open it at the right moment. That liberation of the wait is part of our process of discovery and enjoying it. It’s the ultimate wine sharing experience, and a lot of fun. Not a bad way to start our weekend, isn’t it? WineChain
