At Goodstart Early Learning, we believe all of Australia’s children should have access to affordable, high-quality early learning and care. That's why we welcome the release of the final report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the ECEC sector. Our Head of Advocacy, John Cherry, highlighted the report's valuable insights into the challenges facing families seeking affordable, high-quality care and the crucial role of not-for-profit providers like Goodstart. “This report acknowledges that the system works for most families but needs to do better to service the needs of families in ‘under serviced’ and ‘not serviced’ communities and makes an important contribution to the reform agenda as the Federal Government continues the work to provide universal affordable, high quality early childhood education and care for all Australian children." “The report also demonstrates the valuable role that the not for profit sector plays in delivering quality ECEC services, offering lower fees, higher quality, and better paid staff than most private providers." "We welcome the ACCC’s acknowledgement of not-for-profit providers who are paying our teams above award wages and employing more of them in a full-time capacity – and that this results in not-forprofits having much lower staff turnover." We look forward to engaging with the ACCC on new ways governments around Australia can expand access to quality early childhood education and care across Australia. Together, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to access the quality early learning they need to grow and thrive. 📰 Media Release: https://lnkd.in/gBR6cQMx
Our final Childcare Inquiry report has recommended the Government consider a mix of regulatory measures including a market stewardship role and the use of supply-side subsidies to improve childcare affordability and accessibility for all households.
