We are excited to share the first installment of Montrose’s “Innovations Driving Impact” series! Montrose was approached by a client seeking to reduce their air emissions, reduce their costs and enhance their LDAR compliance program by pioneering the first-ever AWP implementation at a U.S. refinery. We developed a comprehensive approach that integrates innovative strategies, advanced technology and streamlined processes to optimize inspection, data tracking and leak detection — all while ensuring regulatory compliance. “Compared to the conventional leak detection approach, the AWP that we implemented at our client’s Louisiana refinery can screen a greater number of components, improve leak visibility, including hard-to-reach areas, is more time-efficient and reduces air emissions,” said Vijay Manthripragada, President and Chief Executive Officer of Montrose Environmental Group. “Notably, the AWP lowers costs and increases efficacy, by allowing for 2,500 components to be surveyed per day, a significant increase compared to the traditional approach’s capacity of approximately 400 components.” 📰Read our press release: https://hubs.ly/Q02FXD880

📢 Lessons Learned from the 1995 Unocal Refinery Catacarb Release, March 15 Argos Scientific, Inc. recently hosted a special Zoom meeting featuring Jay Gunkelman, a renowned neuroscientist and former Crockett resident, and Howard Adams, a long-time Rodeo resident and Chevron chemist. Both were instrumental in developing BAAQMD’s Reg 12-Rule 15, the Emissions Tracking Rule. Missed out? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Here's a summary of their discussion: ⚠️ Gunkelman and Adams shared insights into a catastrophic catacarb release from the Unocal refinery, now the Phillips 66 Rodeo Refinery, and the pivotal role residents played in establishing fenceline air monitoring systems in Crockett and Rodeo. Catacarb, a hazardous chemical used in refining crude oil production, went unreported for nine days, resulting in serious health impacts and legal repercussions for Unocal. Gunkelman and Adams recounted their own experiences during and after the disaster and their subsequent involvement in developing Rule 15. This regulation mandates real-time air monitoring at refinery perimeters for community safety, with unique controls requiring accurate monitoring systems as part of Rodeo's refinery permit. As we await the Air District’s decisions on refinery compliance with Rule 15, this serves as a valuable opportunity to learn from history and understand the importance of effective air monitoring regulations. 📖🔍 🔗 Meeting Recording: https://lnkd.in/g8EnYisB #ArgosScientific #AirQuality #SunflowerAlliance

There are 1.5m plugged wells in the U.S. We have no way to know how many of them pose pollution risks -- hopefully the percentage is very low, but there are enough examples to be troubling. States are improving their plugging regulations over time, but so many of these wells were plugged before modern standards and regulatory oversight were established... Watch the intersection of poorly plugged wells and carbon sequestration projects -- if an old (pre-2000, say) plugged well appeared in my Area of Review, I would be worried about the integrity of the project.

ChatGPT’s eval, “…this screen/stage play script (THE BASTARDS KNEW), effectively introduces the characters, sets the location, and establishes a dynamic interaction between the invited Academic Consultant, the Hospitality Reps, an AV Tech and the Oil Companies’ Executive CO2 Problem Task Force Attendees. The dialogue provides insights into the characters' personalities, relationships, and the impending meeting's context. The incorporation of historical elements (such as the date and the mention of specific events like Gordie Howe's achievement) adds depth to the setting, anchoring us in its specific time period. The introduction of Professor John Laurmann brings an interesting dynamic, especially as he begins to present scientific information about CO2. This creates a potential conflict between his expertise and the established views of the industry executives. The use of visuals through the AV Tech's projection of Professor Laurmann's presentation adds an engaging element, making it visually interesting for the audience. …appears well-structured and has the potential to develop into a compelling piece, with its themes relating to conflicted industry perspectives on environmental issues. … The dialogue effectively captures the dynamics of a formal meeting, including acknowledgments, submissions, and the procedural aspects of the discussion. The clash of perspectives and the unfolding drama around environmental concerns could keep the audience intrigued and invested in the narrative. Overall, the dramatic impetus appears to be driven by both the interpersonal dynamics among the characters and the broader thematic tension related to climate change and its implications. …demonstrates a compelling narrative with tension, ethical dilemmas, and corporate intrigue. The writing quality is effective in conveying the urgency and gravity of the information presented. The impact is heightened through dialogue, character reactions, and the revelation of proprietary information. The use of technical slides within the play adds a layer of authenticity and complexity, contributing to the overall engagement. The play effectively combines scientific discourse with corporate dynamics, creating a thought-provoking piece.” Is this helpful so far? Y RE: https://lnkd.in/gmUzkn83

While the local content legislation has paved the way for Guyanese companies to be given first preference in the provision of key services such as catering and ground transportation, it also allows for opportunities in the sophisticated or technical aspects of the industry. According to the law, Guyanese must also be considered for some structural fabrication, which may include works needed for Guyana’s floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels. In fact, Guyanese are already being considered for work on Uaru and Whiptail–the two largest oil projects in the ExxonMobil-led Stabroek Block. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gaCdVURQ
