#Gas #pressurization# (#Compression#)projects in offshore gas fields are one of the most important and sensitive engineering projects that require a comprehensive study of all aspects of engineering such as providing power supply for compressors on the platform, supply of required chemicals in the new platform, material selection and protection against corrosion and so on. All mentioned aspects should be considered as an engineering design package. The topic of corrosion studies would be one of the most significant parts of this project, especially when it is decided to combine liquids and gases from several different wells and then send the mixed fluid from the offshore platforms to onshore refineries. Certainly, simulating the composition of process streams in the platform equipment and the change in the amount of acid gases and salty ions can be very important in terms of corrosion studies. Gas delivery superficial speed in transmission pipelines is one of the most important parameters in controlling the flow regime and corrosion rate inside the pipelines. All the points mentioned so far are well understood by all corrosion engineers. But since this project is an engineering package, special attention should be paid to it, in terms of process conditions. Now let's take a look at this issue from the process point of view. Since this mixed and pressurized flow is supposed to be introduced in the same refinery as before, considering the potential issues in downstream units in the refinery can be the bottleneck of this huge project. For example, if the amount of calcium and sulfate ions after mixing the flow of the wells in #offshore #platforms are significantly higher than the initial conditions, the refinery operator would not be able to have a stable production, because hard scales (e.g. CaSO4) would be precipitated on the surfaces of hot areas (such as heat exchanger tubes) and greatly reduce the efficiency of these equipments and even lead to unit shutdowns and affect the sustainability of production. This was just one example of the problems that should be considered in carrying out such a project. So, the #field #experience of operational experts who have worked in different operating units is the most valuable asset that should be taken into account while doing this important project.
