The digital twin plays a vital role in predicting and managing biofouling in underwater systems. By integrating real-time data from sensors, it enables early detection of biofouling, allowing proactive prevention measures. The twin accurately predicts the impact of biofouling on performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. This optimization leads to reduced operational expenses and extended equipment lifespan. It is also very evident to understand the impact of DT in predicting biofouling in earlier stages to save the vessel from emitting higher GHG emissions and with ETS in play, to stop the high purchase rate of allowances based on the emissions surrendered.
