Our core focus is to provide firms and in-house legal departments with top-tier consultants that are ready to engage in as-needed projects and ramp up quickly. Whilst the COMMERCIAL PROPERTY legal recruitment market has been ‘steady’ over the past 12 months, we are seeing much more interest in recruiting. We speak to partners at firms daily and they are clearly not only busy, but also confident in the pipeline of work. This influx of roles has come about for a variety of reasons, there is some replacement recruitment happening, but there is also a significant amount of genuine appetite for growth – which paints a really positive picture for the Real Estate market over the coming months. What’s impressive is the range of opportunities that we are working on at the moment, not only in terms of the level of experience that they are looking for but also the range of work. We have roles across Yorkshire from Partner level to NQ, some with a focus on specific sectors such as public work and residential development, through to roles where there is the full spectrum of work on offer. We are even briefed on a Partner Designate role where a following of work isn’t required. If you want to have a chat about the market or know anyone else who may value a chat about it, please do either get in touch, we have a bird’s eye view of the market and are very happy to share a full appraisal of what we’re seeing, if you are interested in meeting or discussing over the phone – just let me know.

Do you want to be a Commercial Real Estate Partner in a not identikit law firm? Yes? Then read this. We know! Every law firm says it. "Being part of our firm is brilliant/amazing/fantastic." Which makes it really hard to capture your attention. (We thought about adding lots of emojis but didn't want you to think we were being silly because this is a seriously good opportunity.) Growing our Real Estate team is a key strategic priority for us. We're looking for a partner (or a small team) to lead the development of our established, commercial, regional practice based in Peterborough. We know people aren't always actively looking for new roles and need good reasons to get in touch, so here are seven, with emojis. (Just in case that was a good plan.) 😃 Our client base will get you excited. 🚫 You won't have to negotiate egos or hierarchy. 💡 You'll have the freedom and time to develop and implement your strategic ideas - and all the BD support you need to do so. 📖 We're all about transparency. 📈 You'll have influence. 🌟 You'll have the opportunity to shine. 🚚 We deliver on our promises. They must be worth a chat. Surely? Maybe if we also mention you get to work with Alex Hutchings that will seal the deal? Let's talk if you have the right skills and experience for this role. And during the recruitment process we're not just going to say it's a brilliant/amazing/fantastic opportunity, we'll prove it. 𝘿𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 ? For some hiring partners it most definitely does. Recent example: We have had a very clear message from one Global Elite firm in New York that for Australian candidates they want to see deal experience gained out of Sydney or Melbourne. Right or wrong there is a feeling that there is too much of a professional leap to transition from other cities into New York, LA, San Fran or Houston. There are some firms in London which feel the same way too. It's the same for Canadians. Deal experience from Toronto is more highly rated than that gained in other cities. If you are thinking about a move overseas down the track and you are an Australian lawyer working in Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide, you should be thinking about career positioning and a move to Sydney or Melbourne. If you would like to talk to us about this, reach out to : Ben Smith, Daniel Hogan, Jak Yasuda or Petrina Chetty. Think about where you work as well as which firm you work in. #careersadvice #careerpositioing #lawyers #lawfirms

🌟 Discovering Diversity in Practice 🌟 "Embracing Change, Empowering Growth" When you first consider bringing a locum solicitor into your practice, was it focused on the immediate need for flexibility. Most likely you didn't anticipate the profound impact this decision would have on the diversity of skills and expertise within your team. A locum's journey through various legal environments bring a wealth of knowledge that is both refreshing and enlightening. Their unique experiences and perspectives challenges your established ways of thinking and problem-solving. This isn't just a temporary fix; it is a catalyst for growth and innovation. Each assignment the locums undertake is like a piece of a puzzle they brought to the table, allowing you to see the bigger picture in cases and strategies. From niche legal precedents to innovative client management techniques, the breadth of their expertise is invaluable. Collaboration soars as permanent staff engaged with the locum, exchanging insights and learning from their adaptive approach to the law. It is a two-way street of knowledge sharing that enriched our practice immeasurably. The locum's adaptability is also a lesson in resilience. Demonstrating how to navigate the unpredictable tides of legal work with grace and efficiency, a skill that can prove to be contagious among your team members. The result? A more robust, agile practice that not only meets clients' needs but anticipates them. Become that melting pot of legal acumen, ready to tackle challenges with a collective arsenal of expertise. #LegalInnovation #DiversityInLaw #GrowthMindset

'Not a scummy recruiter' - Senior Lawyer, NYSE listed company Recruitment and Secondments Specialist- APAC and EMEA
Inexplicable though it may be, not every in-house legal department in Australia is working with St. Leger Brockman Legal Recruitment to build their team or provide secondees to cover busy periods or particular projects. I know. Baffling. What this means is that other recruitment firms and secondment providers have access to opportunities that we don't, just as we have exclusive opportunities that only the lawyers we work with get to hear about. I got an email from another recruitment firm this morning about a new service meaning that you only need to work with them. But they face the same issue as everyone else in the market, in that the opportunities they are working on are only a small fraction of the available roles, and they might not be working on the kind of roles you want. What I'd suggest is that you build relationships with a few recruiters who you trust and can help you find the roles that get you to where you want to go in your career. There might be a bit of trial and error- there are a few dodgy operators out there- but if you have a couple of people who take the time to get to know you and the kind of roles that interest you, you'll maximise your chances of getting the job you want when you decide it's time to make a move. #lawyers #legalindustry #legalrecruitment
