That is why we have created VOA: to promote contemporary crafts and its new creators, to discover singular pieces and learn about the processes that make them possible and to create a virtual and human community where artisans and artists can get together and talk about what moves them. VOA means "to fly" in Galician, the language of the region of Galicia (north west Spain), where we come from, and it is an invitation for creators—and for ourselves—to spread our wings, take a leap, believe that it is possible. For that reason, as well as to honour those who inspire us to fly, each of our collections is named after a bird. The first one, Lavandeira (Wagtail, Motacilla alba).

Not all discoveries are worth a lot of money. But they do add value. Sometimes it is about the emotional value. Just recently we were asked to identify the artist of a picture from the 20th century. We knew that the view was of Rome, and we knew which bridge the picture depicted. The picture was signed and the client was keen to work out the artist. 💎 It was one of those frustrating signatures which looked simple enough. My team and I were having difficulty deciphering the signature. We widened the search and asked some specialists in Italy. Still no luck. There were a lot of artists doing this view in Italy in the early 20th century. But we did not give up. We asked more specialists in Italy and finally got the name. Oddly enough it all made sense once we knew the name. For the client it was not the value of the artwork, but knowing created it. The client’s father had been born in Rome and it was a connection to the city where their family had come from. 💎 It is not always about the money. My latest article, about the new exhibition at Galeria Municipal do Porto 🍂 The gallery has held an exciting position in Porto's cultural scene, determined to investigate and expose the relationship between the city and its natural environment, through contemporary art. "On a journey between mythology and tradition, rurality and creativity, I felt this exhibition as a true love letter to our North. After some time in the gallery, the experience becomes truly magical, a foretaste of how these montains, rivers, forests and creatures are responding to the 'reconstruction of climates, identities, mythologies and narratives.'” Read it here:
