≈WHY I LOVE STREET ART≈ Graffiti to pale walls, is what funky socks are to boring outfits - it's where the story lies. It's where the character of the city is hidden. Not in the carefully articulated museums but in the hidden alleys where the city comes alive to tell it's stories. "Without order nothing can exist-without chaos nothing can evolve." says Oscar Wilde. With street art, there are no rules; no fixed definitions. It's chaos and I absolutely love that. Walking past the perfectly curated roof top restaurants of Hauz Khas or the tip top houses in Lodhi - I've ventured through some hidden alleys to find rows of walls covered in street art. Utter chaos in a place is so fancy 😉 My favourite wall in Lodhi had an astronaut sitting atop, peering down at me. I realised he must see life go by everyday - but from a different perspective. He's a silent observer of the bigger picture, seeing everyone's truth. I just thought that was so cool. Some walls (lennon wall) gave me history lessons, while some walls reminded me to always fight against the barriers set by patriarchy (north campus, murals). Yet what I truly love about these walls is the unique story that they share with all it's listeners, since they age, evolve & move away just like us. Every pen line and stroke of brush tells a story. In a world full of monochromatic, perfectly symmetrical buildings - street art is what makes you look up - stop, think and unravel. These walls talk to me- like no newspaper, or TV anchor could - with a dash of spray paint and a whole lot of fervour. Tell me about your favourite wall in the comments! #AMthoughts

WHEN WALLS COULD TALK When entering a room or a place that is still unknown to you, have you ever felt the "presence" of other souls which have already lived there? As if you were going through many scenes that keep scrolling in front of your eyes? This happened when I entered Denneweg 56 in The Hague for the first time. This initial showroom, build in 1898, presents its most gorgeous art nouveau (Jugendstil) facade which can be seen as eclecticism as well. You can imagine the attraction it may aroused at a time when we were starting to tease customers in visual and physical ways. A great boom occurred until the thirties and progressed gradually. This construction was remodeled as a furniture house and then turned into a gifts, toys and luxury items shop in the sixties. Its famous disk of four had been launched: Food, Lifestyle, Fashion and Beauty. This same masterpiece has witnessed so many kinds of people; has heard in a way so many conversations, laughs and whispers; maybe felt the same doubts or emotions, erasing from each soul, that I cannot believe that behind those same walls, no ancient souls do live here anymore. In 1980, the same institution was converted into a movie house (Filmhuis Den Haag), attracting crowds every week and weekend. Once again, how many emotions, joys, even tears were shed in this same building. Not to mention the smells of iced chocolates that were served at that time and which -we don't know- aroused desires on the part of some ancestors! The field of aesthetics continued to flourish in this famous Denneweg street. In 2015, the first and most renowned lifestyle studio, AVEDA, moved in. Since then, it has appealed many personalities, bloggers or expatriates, looking for originality, quality of service and attention to each customer. From generation to generation, this institute has seen thousands of minds, various nationalities and cultures pass through, and this resentment and presence simply grow with each visit. 🦩IT'S INTERNATIONAL FLAMINGO DAY🦩 I LOVE flamingos! When I experienced trauma that broke me I needed to rebuild and rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Instead of a phoenix though, flamingos became symbolic of that rebirth. It started with my bedroom wallpaper. I’d always liked flamingos. They are kitsch, synonymous with mid century design that I’ve always loved but I’d dumbed down my personal taste over the course of my 23 year relationship. That was now over. It was time to reclaim my space. I fell in love with the pink flamingo wallpaper and just HAD to have it. It was symbolic. Flaming go! A group of flamingos is actually called a flamboyance did you know? I see this as fitting. As my identity had been lost I’d become less and less flamboyant and become more mainstream in my clothes and how I decorated my home. I’d felt drab and boring. A grey version of myself. Once I’d reclaimed my identity, dyed my hair magenta, added more pink and glitter and leopard print into my life I felt like I was finding myself again. Back to my unique self, standing out from the crowd. I was no longer anonymous. I felt like a flamingo amongst the flock of pigeons. This is not just my story. It belongs to the women who I now support to walk the same path whether it’s by being a member of the FAB Business Club or working with me 1:1 on raising their VIBE. It’s about standing tall in your truth, fully aligned with your values and being true to yourself in life and business. t’s about you showing up in the world in all YOUR glory, embracing your uniqueness and being your personal brand as a woman in business. Being YOUR own version of the flamingo amongst the flock of pigeons.
