The first of our MHV Breakfast Series brought together seasoned finance leaders with our portfolio CFOs and founders to discuss their top-of-mind concerns around fundraising, capital preservation, and strategic capital allocation. A few takeaways from our panel featuring Allen Shim and Juliet Zhu, CFA, moderated by Monk's Hill Ventures Head of Talent Cheryl Liew: 📈 Growth in context: While often celebrated, growth must be evaluated against cost structure, margin potential, and market position to truly understand competitive advantage. 💡 Value creation vs. valuation: Regularly stress-testing your business model is crucial for sustainable growth and strategic refinement. 🤓 Navigating imposter syndrome: Even experienced leaders face self-doubt. The antidote? Developing unparalleled expertise in your industry and business. Our gratitude goes out to Stripe for their partnership, to our portfolio founders and CFOs for their participation, and to the seasoned finance leaders who gave us their mornings: our Head of Corporate Development, Ali Darwish, Rahmat Budiardjo from Kopi Kenangan, Justin C. from Circles, Leigh Gui, CFA from SHEIN, Dominic Ong from Endowus, Cho Weihao from Una Brands, and Sabrina Ng from CXA Group and Hummingbird Bioscience. March Madness is here, and The CFO Alliance is ready to bring some financial finesse to the court! 🚀🏀 As CFOs, we know the importance of strategy, precision, and teamwork - qualities that are not just vital on the balance sheet, but also on the basketball court! 📊💼 This March, as we gear up for the excitement of the NCAA tournament, let's take a moment to celebrate the parallels between the world of finance and the thrill of college hoops. Just like a winning team needs a solid game plan, our financial strategies require careful planning, adaptability, and a keen eye for opportunities. 🏆💡 At the CFO Alliance, we're all about leveraging these skills to drive success not only in our businesses but also in our personal pursuits. In Q1 of this year, we met with over 400 finance leaders to discuss the skills gaps in our teams and process. As a result we have designed a “Resource Roadmap” to help our members identify and address the skills gaps that exisit within our teams. So, whether you're cheering for your favorite team or diving deep into financial forecasts, remember: it's all about staying agile, making calculated moves, and ultimately coming out on top. 🗺️🎯 Send Greg Wood a request to access the Resource Roadmap Wishing everyone a thrilling March Madness season filled with both slam dunks on the court and financial victories in the boardroom! #MarchMadness #CFOAlliance #FinancialStrategy #Teamwork #GamePlan

How to manage Board expectations really well: So you just finished 2023 and now you are getting ready to present your performance to your board. 1. Avoid surprises. One of the best strategies for a CFO or founder entering a board meeting is to make sure you avoid surprises. Ensure that your investors have all the relevant information and that everyone is on the same page and ready to have a meaningful conversation. 2. Pre-discussion and preparation. Before board meetings, I always share the agenda in advance. Ask board members to review these and provide questions beforehand. This helps anchor the conversations on what matters and provides you with the leverage you need to get the most out of that time with your board. 3. Leverage your board. Remember, your investors are there to multiply, not just to evaluate. Approach them as a valuable resources for guidance and feedback P.S.
