Colleague Greg O'Gara from the Digital Wealth practice at Javelin Strategy & Research has this new report: As the United States implements a T 1 settlement cycle in securities transactions, the country is poised to achieve a significant milestone. Successful preparation for the cycle, which took effect on May 28, has engendered industry-wide collaboration, development of proactive risk management strategies, and the adoption of new systems, all crucial to optimizing trade operations and mitigating market disruption. However, there have been challenges, including lagging progress in Europe and Asia, where the misalignment of settlement cycles across global jurisdictions can create complexities that increase systemic financial risk in Europe's foreign exchange market. https://lnkd.in/gJEbTqpr #securities #settlement #trading

Regulatory Round-up December (Part Two) - Best Execution The last regulatory round-up of the year sees a flurry of activity in Europe around the Central Securities Depositories Regulation (CSDR) and sustainable finance. In the US, the Securities and Exchange Commission tightens up the rules around Treasury clearing for cash and repo. Globally, the International Organisation for Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has published a report on how trading venues can shore up their resilience in the wake of market outages. #regulation #markets #finance #bestexecution https://hubs.li/Q02dyNNy0

The Illusion of Advancement in European Bond Markets The share of European electronic corporate bond trading has increased, according to data from Barclays. However, I strongly disagree with the FT Alphaville headline that states, 'Corporate bond trading enters the 20th century.' Pre- and post-trade transparency in European corporate bond trading seems more reminiscent of a banana republic than an efficient market. Given that dealers appear to prefer the status quo, this serves as a prime example of regulatory capture. https://lnkd.in/dSvbPKpf
