This is outside my normal area of comment, but I found the article informative and worthy of note. Ignoring Africa, as the West has typically done, will usually be a cause for regret. It is an unfortunate truth that few (read that as essentially no) major media outlets care about sub-Saharan Africa. In this case, the events are in the middle of Saharan Africa. The issues in Israel and Palestine always garner orders of magnitude more attention even though more people are suffering, being displaced, and dying elsewhere in the world and usually in Africa. The article is something of an advocacy blog, but it is probably the best reporting on the topic, and we need to work with it. Thank you Mark Goldberg for the coverage and the commentary. Sudan should be important for multiple reasons. One, it is a major source of gold. Two, it is one of the largest countries in Africa. Three, it has at various times over the last one hundred plus years been the source of important extremist ideas and groups. After thorough analysis I realised that there are two basic and fundamental structural defects in the constitution of UN which are 1. Veto Power System for the permanent members of the security council of UN. Since there is a body of all stakeholders in the form of General Assembly wherein all member- countries of the UN are represented there is absolutely no need of Security Council to accept or reject the resolutions passed by General Assembly. As such Security Council should be dissolved forthwith. 2. All member countries of UN are not signatory to the Rome statute consequently some countries are not under the International Criminal Court (ICC) whereas all the member countries have to be under the jurisdiction of ICC so that peace prevails in the world. . Due to these defects America has made a mockery of the UN as it is reduced to a puppet in the hands of the America. Consequently America with some allies have invaded several Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and looted these countries then leaving these countries after the loot is complete. Presently America with the help of Israel (both countries are not under the jurisdiction of ICC) is demolishing, cold blooded mass murders, devastation, destruction , displacement, ethenic cleansing, murder especially of children and women and genocide and the whole world including the UN have to be mute spectators of all this and nobody has the powers to question them because of these defects in the constitution of UN. More than seven decades have passed by but the above-mentioned defects in the constitution of UN were not rectified. Non-rectification of these defects has created a very grave situation as instead of peace maintaining organisation UN became a weapon of blackmailing and means of invading and looting the rich countries by some countries which were having the veto power also besides these countries were not signatory to the Rome statute consequently these countries were not under the jurisdiction of ICC. As the result these countries became law per se and virtually became terrorist countries of the world because they were not answerable to any forum for whatever they do. They invaded and looted several countries so much so they created terrorist groups also. Now the climax of lawlessness has reached in Palestine where total devastation, destruction, cold blooded mass murders, genocide, ethenic cleansing, kidnapping and rape of innocent and unarmed civilians is being done and the whole world including UN have to be mute spectators because of the basic and fundamental defects in the constitution of UN have not been rectified. This is the highest time these defects are rectified by the General Assembly. Let General Assembly wake up after decades of slumber and rectify the defects as proposed above..

23.5.2024 Israel’s genocide in Palestine: ICJ to rule on Friday on measures over Israel’s Rafah offensive The International Court of Justice (ICJ) says it will rule on South Africa’s request to order a halt to Israel’s offensive on Rafah tomorrow afternoon. Rafah is where more than one million displaced Palestinians have sought shelter from Israeli attacks on other parts of the enclave. In hearings last week, South Africa asked the ICJ to order a halt to Israel’s offensive in Gaza, and in Rafah in particular, to ensure the survival of the Palestinian people. The demand for such an emergency measure is part of a larger case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide. After initial hearings in January, the ICJ issued several provisional measures, ordering Israel to take action to limit humanitarian suffering in Gaza.

I really want this to be a step in the right direction, the international community finally taking a stand against the ongoing Israeli genocide of Palestinians but I am confused. Israel must prevent genocidal acts in Gaza, top UN court says but the court did not agree to South Africa’s request for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. By large majorities the court’s 17 judges ruled, among other measures, that Israel should do everything in its power to avoid killing Palestinians, causing them serious bodily or mental harm or imposing measures intended to prevent Palestinian women from giving birth. So Israel should do everything in its power to avoid killing Palestinians, causing them serious bodily or mental harm but not cease fire. How does anyone make logic from that? Here are the provisional measures the court has made: Israel must take all measures to prevent any acts that could be considered genocidal - killing members of a group, causing bodily harm, inflicting conditions designed to bring about the destruction of a group, preventing births. Israel must ensure its military does not commit any genocidal acts. Israel must prevent and punish any public comments that could be considered incitement to commit genocide in Gaza. Israel must take measures to ensure humanitarian access. Israel must prevent any destruction of evidence that could be used in a genocide case. Israel must submit a report to the court within one month of this order being given.
